Primary Responsibilities
Customer Management
- Maintain highly professional business relationships with our customers at all times.
- Use all available resources to have an expert knowledge of the customer’s food ingredient requirements including their menu, web and social presence, customer reviews, promotional specials, purchase activity with Bidfood and competitor activity.
- Offer customers appropriate and qualified products from the Bidfood range ensuring they are relevant, competitive and have appropriate availability.
- Respond on a timely and complete basis to customers' queries regarding product, pricing, availability, and application.
- Attend formal and informal customer meetings in person and online.
- Provide product information and practical training to customer personnel.
- Maintain good written records of customer activity including meetings, pricing quotes and new business targets and achievement.
- Own accurate and complete system pricing for customer’s ensuring pricing is up to date and as agreed with the customer. Identify and address any low margin or negative margin pricing issues immediately. Respond to pricing queries from internal teams or the customer promptly and with complete information.
- Provide accurate and professional price quotations in response to new business opportunities, cost movement and competitive activity. Follow-up with customers on a timely basis.
- Troubleshoot and resolve operational and service issues affecting customers including out of stocks, substitution, delivery issues, pricing queries and other.
- Ensure all invoice queries have been responded to in a timely manner and that the customer account is maintained within payment terms. Where invoices are unpaid, follow-up with the appropriate customer representatives to have overdue invoices receive necessary attention. Escalate within the customer where required to prevent any supply disruptions being necessary due to the non-payment of the customer’s account to Bidfood.
- Leverage every opportunity to provide customers additional value from the program of activity Bidfood provides including product launch, masterclass and skills development, and events.
- Make excellent use of the Business Development team to provide expert category advice and support relevant to the customer channel.
- Represent Bidfood in customer events as appropriate.
Sales Targets
- Deliver sales results that meet and exceed monthly targets.
- Review sales and gross profit frequently to maintain an intimate understanding of individual performance, and customer purchase activity.
- Identify any sales and gross profit deficits early and respond with customer and market activity that fills the gap.
New Business Development
- Identify and nurture new customer opportunities relevant to the customer sector growing the total customer base over time.
- Utilize customer segment gap analysis and range matrix methodologies to identify product opportunities per customer to grow sales.
- Action the promotions and marketing programs to drive increased sales for Bidfood.
- Pass new customer prospects relevant to other market sectors to the appropriate sales team members for further follow-up.
Sales Team Participation
- Maintain an excellent standard of product knowledge and appropriate technical skills; relevant to the target customer base. Priorities understanding new products/brands and identifying fit for purpose in customer channel.
- Participate in weekly team and sales meetings, product, supplier and skills training, company functions, industry events and other as requested.
- Perform administrative duties as required including sales budgets and reports, processing credits and pick-up requests, preparing sales quotes and menu suggestions, and filing reports.
Inventory Management (Sector Specific)
- Provide the Business Development and Procurement teams with all volume forecasts as required to ensure that demand and supply align and non-supply is minimized (eliminated).
- Monitor key product inventory closely ensuring appropriate stock cover is maintained relevant to the customer purchases. identify potential availability issues well in advance and work closely with purchasing teams and suppliers where appropriate to resolve.
- Communicate proactively and appropriately with customers with respect to availability issues providing appropriate solutions to minimize customer disruption.
- Troubleshoot potential inventory issues where demand has not followed forecast; ensure that slow moving stock concerns are addressed promptly with customers and stock is cleared before expiry.
