BQS Specialist – Marine

To evaluate complex issues for internal and external clients in situations where parameters are unclear and past experience offers no precedent, and to identify appropriate solutions. The role also involves leading and managing investigations.

The role
- Together with other BQS personnel, ensure 24/7/365 coverage to provide specialist advice (including reporting) for BQS service delivery within agreed broad parameters that include budget constraints and contractual requirements.
- To produce the deliverable within the agreed broad parameters (i.e. speed and quality) in an appropriate format and take the responsibility to review other colleagues work as required.
- To discuss/present the BQS service with the client and subcontractors up to a senior level and be able to suggest alternative solutions where appropriate.
- Undertake administration as required in line with current processes and procedures not limited to but including the following: -
- Manage the BQS mailbox
- Handling all surveyor nominations e.g. BQS, ROB, De-bunkering, witnessing’s, sampling and Water analysis
- Checking surveyor reports, liaising with surveyors to resolve any queries and publishing the final reports to the client. Following up with the client as and when required to do so.
- Ensuring that all of the surveyors that we work with are fully trained in the use of the Neptune system and in relation to the specifics of the FOBAS Code of Practice and keeping surveyors updated with regular bulletins.
- Maintain BQS jobs in ByD to allow invoices to be issued promptly each month
- To make recommendations based on internal/external client feedback to assist in service delivery improvement and to help build the business.
- To contribute to internal / external client management as appropriate.
- Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, accreditation schemes, legislation, and industry standards.
- To pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline, knowledge and awareness.
What you bring
- A degree or equivalent from a tertiary organisation recognised by Lloyd’s Register within the relevant field of engineering or physical science (minimum of two years programme) or Qualifications from a marine or nautical institution and relevant sea-going experience as a certificated ship’s officer.
- Proficiency in the English Language commensurate with the work.
- Excellent knowledge of the fuel bunker industry
- PC literate, specifically proficient in MS office
