Job Description
The successful candidate will undertake data privacy compliance work for the Singapore Airlines Limited (“SIA”) group of companies, especially with respect to the Singapore Personal Data Protection Act and global privacy laws, and advise on contentious matters involving SIA.
He/ She will be either:
(a) a specialist personal data privacy lawyer; or
(b) a general commercial litigation lawyer with data privacy law experience or qualifications, e.g. Certified Information Privacy Professional qualifications.
As part of the Legal, Compliance & Secretariat Department (“LCS”) in the Corporate Planning Division of SIA, the successful candidate’s responsibilities will include the following:
(a) Regulatory compliance
(i) Advise business units on personal data protection matters (including legal risks and/or implications of business decisions), and offer appropriate solutions, if possible;
(ii) Work with business units to evaluate, implement and monitor internal personal data protection compliance policies, procedures, controls and/or remediation measures, as may be needed from time to time;
(iii) Promote and update the personal data protection compliance programme periodically; and
(iv) Manage and respond to data subject access requests and privacy related complaints or disputes.
(b) Contentious / Advisory
(i) Manage actual and potential civil litigation matters involving SIA in Singapore and overseas such as privacy or IP related litigation, including internal reviews and investigations relating to those matters and managing outside counsel;
(ii) Advise on the handling of passenger claims; and
(iii) Advise on compliance with production orders / requests made by law enforcement agencies / regulatory authorities in Singapore and overseas.
Requirements
The candidate should have:
(a) a law degree from a university in Singapore or a Commonwealth jurisdiction,
(b) at least two (2) years of legal experience gained in a reputable law firm or in-house, and
(c) excellent drafting skills.
Experience in the following areas is an added advantage:
(a) cybersecurity,
(b) litigation (aviation or cross border litigation experience), and/or
(c) intellectual property.
The candidate should be able to:
(a) work independently and as a team player, and
(b) communicate with people effectively in a dynamic environment in SIA and its unlisted subsidiaries.
The successful candidate should have a positive attitude to learn with an enthusiasm to excel. Admission to the Singapore Bar is not required.
