The Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKCMedicine) trains doctors who put patients at the centre of their exemplary care. The School, which offers both undergraduate and graduate programs, is named after local philanthropist Tan Sri Dato Lee Kong Chian. Established in 2010 by Nanyang Technological University, Singapore in partnership with Imperial College London, LKCMedicine aims to be a model for innovative medical education and a centre for transformative research. Through our research programmes, which include global and population health, neuroscience and mental health, regenerative medicine, respiratory and infectious disease, and metabolic, skin and microbiome health, we are addressing some of the world’s most pressing healthcare issues, with a strong focus on Asian populations and importantly Singaporeans
Our laboratory helmed by Assoc Prof Foo Jia Nee (Assoc Prof of Neurogenetics) focuses on the genomics of neurological diseases and functional characterization of neurological disease-associated risk genes
We are recruiting a highly motivated Research Assistant to join our laboratory at the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (Novena campus). This role will focus on research (bench work) and administrative support in our study to functionally characterise Parkinson’s disease-associated risk genes. This study is led by Dr Elaine Chew and supported by a NMRC OF-YIRG grant. The role will be based mainly at Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (Novena campus) with some experiments to be conducted at the Genome Institute of Singapore, A*STAR, Biopolis
Key Responsibilities:
The selected candidate will perform a variety of functions related to research, including but not limited to the following:
- Research work including cell culturing and maintenance, gene editing, RT-qPCR, Western blot, confocal microscopy, flow cytometry and mass spectrometry.
- Conduct accurate documentation and reporting of experimental procedures and results, as well as optimization and troubleshooting when required.
- Assist in administrative project support including budget tracking, procurement of laboratory consumables, and general laboratory maintenance.
- Provide training and guidance for new staff or interns.
- Candidates should have a Diploma/Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Biomedical or Life Sciences with at least 1 year of work experience in a research environment. Recent graduates with relevant internship experience will also be considered.
- Demonstrate knowledge, skills and expertise in research techniques including routine molecular biology techniques and cell culturing.
- Experience with confocal microscopy and gene editing will be an advantage.
- Experience with procurement and administrative work will be preferred.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a strong team player who is organized, energetic, open-minded, highly motivated.
- Able to work independently and effectively as part of a collaborative team.
