Seagate Technology

Date: 1 week ago
Area: Singapore, Singapore
Contract type: Full time

About our group:

You will be joining the Asia Media Development organization responsible for the replication, qualification, and transfer for high volume manufacturing of the new heat assisted magnetic recording media technology which is the world’s first to volume production in the hard disk drive (HDD) industry. The magnetic media replication and optimization relies on the feedback from the electrical spin stand characterization that measures areal density capabilities and parametric properties of the sputtered media. This position would require the ability to understand the recording test results and to work closely with the material science sputter engineering team to provide the interpretation of performance and link it to the media structure and process. The test engineer is a critical function for media development and optimizing media performance. Your talents will help ensure that Seagate continues to advance the development of the core HDD technology. You will report into one of two Sputter Engineering director.

About the role - you will:

  • Work closely with sputter engineers in developing media magnetics and replicating new media magnetics.
  • Interpret electrical test results and provide guidance to sputter engineers to ensure high-quality electrical testing data.
  • Summarize, organize, and analyze electrical test data to provide guidance to the magnetic replication and optimization process.
  • Utilize spin stand based electrical test measurements to provide a high degree of prediction of drive performance.
  • Contribute to the replication of designs from the Fremont Development and Research Center.
  • Participate in the qualification process and resolve manufacturing issues related to media designs.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize media performance and ensure successful transfer to manufacturing.
  • Maintain accurate records of test results and contribute to technical reports.
  • Stay current with industry trends and advancements in magnetic recording technology.

About you:

  • Bachelor's degree in a basic science such as Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or Materials Science Engineering. A higher degree is preferred.
  • Two (2) or more years of experience working in related industries in the area of test characterization or magnetic metrology is desirable.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and members.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and interpretation.
  • Familiarity with electrical testing equipment and magnetic methodologies.

Your experience includes:

  • Experience with magnetic recording media testing.
  • Knowledge of drive test process, electrical spin stand testing, and analysis.
  • Familiarity with statistical process control (SPC) techniques.
  • Skilled with one of the high level analysis software, Matlab, JMP. Etc.
