The General Manager leads the overall operations of SBSA and is responsible for ensuring compliance with governing bodies, implementing strategic initiatives, and maintaining the association’s reputation and effectiveness. This position works closely with the Board of Council Members and oversees all major projects across high performance, developmental, and event management areas.

The GM also ensures the smooth functioning of the HQ by establishing and executing necessary Policies and SOPs.


Key Responsibilities

1. Leadership

  • Lead the development and execution of SBSA’s long-term strategy and Multiyear Sports Plan, ensuring alignment with national sports objectives.
  • The General Manager provides overall leadership and strategic direction for SBSA, setting the vision and long-term goals for High Performance (HPE), Pathway Development, and Headquarters (HQ) operations.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between SBSA and key external stakeholders, including SportSG, SSI, SNOC, and other governing bodies.
  • Ensure compliance with all SportSG regulations, including financial operations, annual audits, and Charities guidelines.
  • Oversee the financial health of the association, including budget management, sponsorship acquisition, and funding compliance.
  • As the leader of HQ, the GM is responsible for ensuring the smooth functioning of the entire HQ. This includes the development, implementation, and oversight of Policies and SOPs, as well as ensuring compliance with external regulations and internal standards.
  • Ensure that all HQ operations run efficiently and effectively, aligning with SBSA’s strategic objectives and ensuring smooth coordination between departments.
  • Oversee financial, administrative, and operational workflows to ensure that all departments are functioning according to the set guidelines and expectations
  • Provide direct supervision and leadership to the Manager and Admin Executive, ensuring they have the resources, support, and direction they need to perform their roles effectively.
  • Foster a collaborative environment where staff feel empowered to take ownership of their tasks while maintaining alignment with SBSA’s goals.
  • Lead the strategic planning and resource allocation for SBSA’s elite teams and developmental programs, ensuring that the necessary structures are in place for sustained success.
  • Ensure that all organizational processes, financial structures, and regulatory compliance measures are effectively managed and periodically reviewed for improvement.
  • Lead decision-making on key operational issues, including event management, financial planning, and regulatory matters.

2. HQ Management

  • Ensure the smooth functioning of the HQ by developing, implementing, and maintaining clear Policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Regularly review and update these frameworks to ensure they align with best practices and operational needs.
  • Monitorthe execution of these policies and procedures to ensure consistency and efficiency in all HQ operations.
  • Identify gaps and develop solutions.

3. High Performance

  • Oversee all high-performance programs, ensuring national baseball and softball teams meet performance standards.
  • Provide strategic support to coaches and technical staff, nsuring the implementation of best practices and performance monitoring systems.
  • Report regularly to the Board on team performances, goals, and program outcomes.

4. Pathway Development

  • Guide the implementation of youth academies and learn-to-play rograms, ensuring these align with long-term athlete development (LTAD) models.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to drive the success of these programs, including securing funding and sponsorship opportunities.

5. Event Management

  • Supervise the planning and execution of major SBSA events, such as the National League and international competitions.
  • Ensure events are well-promoted and well-executed to increase community engagement and visibility.

6. Finance and Regulatory Compliance & Reporting

  • Ensure that all required reporting to SportSG/SSI is completed accurately and submitted in a timely manner.
  • Maintain compliance with all financial and operational egulations set by SportSG and Charities Act, including overseeing the association’s annual audit and managing its affiliate status with SNOC.
  • Ensure all Key Deliverables are met.
  • Manage SBSA’s budgeting and financial tracking together with Finance Lead, ensuring expenses align with financial policies.

7. Facilities

  • The GM will oversee the overall maintenance strategy for the baseball and softball facilities, ensuring that the facilities meet safety, operational, and performance standards.
  • Ensure that adequate resources, budget, and manpower are allocated to facility management and that maintenance tasks are carried out in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Liaise with external vendors for specialized maintenance services (e.g., grass cutting, electrical work) and ensure contracts are in place for necessary upkeep.
  • Ensure compliance with any regulatory or safety standards required by SportSG or other governing bodies.
  • Work closely with the Manager and Admin Executive on the facility scheduling and to assess the condition of the facilities regularly and make strategic decisions on upgrades, renovations, or additional resources needed.
  • Approve maintenance schedules and ensure that all tasks are prioritised according to facility usage and event scheduling.

8. Capability and Coach Development

  • Provide strategic leadership and oversight for the development of officiating (umpires and scorers), volunteer programs, and other capability development initiatives.
  • Ensure that resources (funding, personnel, and infrastructure) are allocated appropriately to support the development of these programs.
  • Liaise with key stakeholders, such as SportSG and other governing bodies, to align the initiatives with national standards and best practices.
  • Oversee partnerships with external bodies or educational institutions to enhance officiating and volunteer development programs.
  • Lead the SG-Coach Curriculum Development process, ensuring that the courses and materials meet national coaching standards and are up-to-date with the latest coaching methodologies.
  • Approve the scheduling and planning of certification courses and coaching workshops, ensuring that these events align with the overall coaching development strategy.
  • Work closely with external partners to ensure that SBSA’s coach development programs are well-supported and sustainable.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of these programs and make strategic adjustments as necessary.

9. Fundraising

  • Establish and lead SBSA’s sponsorship and fundraising strategies
  • Engage with corporate partners, donors, and stakeholders to secure major funding opportunities
  • Serve as the key liaison with sponsors, major donors, and funding agencies (e.g. Tote Board) to secure long-term support
  • Oversee fundraising initiatives, ensuring alignment with SBSA’s long-term vision.
