Aviation Systems Applied Research Internship
Under the initial sponsorship of Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS), The MITRE Corporation, a U.S.-based, globally renowned research and development company, established its premier air traffic management research center in Singapore to support the growth in the Asia Pacific Region. This research center, MITRE Asia Pacific Singapore (MAPS), needs a systems engineer intern to be part of a dynamic team of professionals working to improve air traffic operations in Singapore and the Asia Pacific region. The ideal candidate possesses excellent verbal and written technical communication skills, strong analytical abilities, the desire to acquire new skills, and the trait of being self-driven.
The selected individual will apply and develop skills in the following ways:
- Engage in research and development of novel aviation concepts and tools.
- Use a range of data analysis tools to uncover valuable insights from complex aviation datasets.
- Assess existing aviation systems to understand their complexities and interactions.
- Identify interdependencies, system constraints, and hazards within aviation operations.
- Build mathematical models and run simulations to assess system performance and propose improvements.
- Assist in drafting system requirements and technical specifications.
- Stay up to date with the latest aviation industry trends and actively participate in relevant research initiatives.
- Support the preparation of technical documentation, status reports, and presentations.
- Present results of your work to your peers and sponsors in a professional manner.
Desired skills and experience:
- Possess a foundational knowledge of air traffic systems, or aircraft/airline operations.
- Demonstrate intermediate experience in data analysis with Python, R, or similar language.
- You are currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Aerospace, Cvil Industrial, Mechanical, Systems Engineering, or related technical degree program.
- You are one to two years from degree award.
- Willingness to work in a highly collaborative team environment.
