We are looking for candidates for the following position at our Livestock Express organisation in Singapore:


Superintendent (1 FTE)


Livestock Express, a Vroon company based in the Netherlands and Singapore, is the world's largest independent seaborne livestock carrier. Our fleet of modern, purpose-designed vessels operates on a world-wide basis, in line with the most stringent international rules and regulations for transportation of animals.


What will you do?


The Superintendent is responsible for:

  • Support, maintain all procedures, instructions and activities for an assigned group of vessels, all on-board activities shall be planned and carried out in a safe and effective manner.
  • Communicate with Operations Department on day-to-day matters related to the execution of voyages.
  • Supervise and report on the condition and operational costs of vessels assigned, therefore visit vessels on a regular basis and if appropriate sails with the vessel, writes technical report and recommend required maintenance investments, a debriefing will be performed after each visit with Managing Director Fleet Management.
  • Prepares and manage the agreed budget for vessels, ensures preventative and corrective maintenance to vessels are completed in a cost effective manner, executes repairs and dockings in accordance with maintenance planning and vessel policies, reports major deviations to the Managing Director - Fleet Management.
  • Prepares damage claims including timely reporting to the insurance department, ensuring a satisfactory financial settlement can be reached in an effective and efficient manner.
  • Maintain quality of the assigned group of vessels, ensures quality management procedures and instructions are implemented accordingly and follow up on result of audits (done by Safety Officer from QHSE department) including all port state control and pre loading inspections requirements and to close all audit report issues.
  • Executes internal audits on board including quality management, health, safety and environment as applicable/requested by QHSE Department.
  • Ensures certification of all assigned vessels and crew are up-to-date, work in close cooperation with Crewing Officers and perform appraisals of senior officers prior to their relief from vessels.
  • Ensures all copies of statutory, SOLAS and equipment certificates (life rafts, compasses, etc) are properly maintained and documented.
  • Inform and instruct Purchaser(s) on goods and materials to be acquired in support of reduction of unplanned off-hire days, assuring lowest cost of ownership in adherence to set quality standards and budget.
  • Perform evaluation of dry-docking, negotiate repair quotes, prepare budget and selection of shipyards for all repair works and ship maintenance etc.
  • Performs any other specific duties, responsibilities and tasks assigned to him by the Management team


Who are we looking for?

To excel in this function you have:

  • Minimum Class 1 C.O.C
  • Must have sailed as Chief Engineer on board Livestock Carriers
  • Strong planning and problem-solving skills;
  • Sufficient exposure in Superintendent task
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and reporting skills in English are essential.
  • Sailing experience is a must
  • Livestock Carrier experience is a must
