A Money Changer Counter Staff (also known as a Currency Exchange Teller or Forex Counter Staff) plays a crucial role in handling foreign currency transactions and providing customer service in a professional and secure manner. Below are the typical roles and responsibilities:

Primary Roles and Responsibilities

  • Currency Exchange Transactions
    • Buy and sell foreign currencies based on current exchange rates.
    • Calculate and provide the correct amount of foreign or local currency.
    • Handle both cash and digital payment transactions

  • Customer Service
    • Greet and assist customers courteously.
    • Explain exchange rates, service fees, and transaction processes.
    • Provide information about available currencies and rates

  • Cash Handling
    • Count and verify cash accurately during transactions.
    • Detect counterfeit currency using tools and visual inspection.
    • Balance cash drawers at the start and end of shifts

  • Record Keeping
    • Maintain accurate records of all transactions.
    • Issue receipts for all exchanges.
    • Prepare daily transaction reports and submit them to management

  • Compliance & Security
    • Follow anti-money laundering (AML) and know your customer (KYC) regulations.
    • Verify customer identity for large transactions.
    • Maintain confidentiality of customer information

  • Monitoring Market Rates
    • Stay updated with real-time foreign exchange rates.
    • Adjust selling and buying rates based on market trends and company guidelines

Additional Duties

  • Operate and maintain currency counting machines and anti-counterfeit devices.
  • Handle customer complaints or escalate to supervisors as needed.
  • Support promotional campaigns or marketing efforts.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization at the counter
