Overview*

The jobholder is responsible to provide a safe and clean environment for the surgical patient and supervising, guiding, and training new staff to be competent in their work

Job Responsibilities*

  • Ensure operational readiness of Minor Surgical Procedure (MSP) equipment
  • Check the suction and diathermy machines for cleanliness and good working order
  • Check operating lights for clarity and good functioning
  • Clean, check and prepare operating table and accessories
  • Perform daily inventory check on positioning aids and accessories
  • Maintain an accurate record for the inventory of all OT equipment and report any loss, breakage and faulty equipment to the nurse manager or Staff nurse in-charge
  • Routine cleaning of OT equipment e.g., tourniquet, light source, etc.
  • Assist in ensure efficient turnover of daily operations in MSP room
  • Assist in the safe transfer of patient from trolley to operating table and vice versa
  • Assist in positioning the patient
  • Oversee the smooth operation of the day-to-day activities
  • Assist in both simple and complex cases.
  • Motivate teamwork and adhere to safe work practices and infection control
  • Perform cleaning of the MSP room in between cases within 15mins (Turnaround time target)
  • Maintain a clean and safe operating room environment
  • Ensure that the disposable suction liner is capped tightly before discarding into the biohazard bag
  • Ensure housekeeper performs terminal cleaning at the end of the list or after infected cases as stated in the protocol
  • Maintains proper daily housekeeping of MSP room which include operating room, prep-room, clean utility and dirty utility
  • Clear soiled linen and surgical wastes to the clean utility before the next case starts or when necessary time allows
  • Others
  • Participate in quality improvement activities, 6S
  • Conduct in-service for fellow colleague and sharinging learning points
  • Perform any other duties as assigned

Requirements*

  • Preferably with NITEC, Secondary 2, or equivalent
  • Possesses initiative and keenness to learn
  • Possesses good interpersonal and communication skills
  • On-the-job training will be provided but minimum 1 year of relevant experience preferred
