The individual will be supporting Global Head to manage the Base Metals Team in RtMI, develop global strategy, expand business capabilities and organize global resources to grow Base Metals portfolio and profitability.

Additionally, to increase industry presence and building sustainable business models for the Division and combining the use of equity assets, calculated risk positions and structured trades on a global basis to generate multiple revenue streams from trading opportunities.


Responsibilities

1. Team and People Management

  • Communicate and implement company strategy and policy with the Base Metals Division team (front / middle offices) and other relevant stakeholders such as trade operation members supporting Base Metals Division.
  • Set KPIs and targets for individual direct reports in alignment with Divisional KPIs and reviews their performance.
  • Monitor and train team employees in all aspects of trading and related procedures as appropriate.
  • Ensure effective communication between team members to ensure updated business developments.
  • Contribute to a positive atmosphere of motivation and encouragement within the trading team.
  • Support other RtMI’s entities or RtM Global business in possible cross-commodities activities.
  • Ensures that team members are collaborating well with members in corporate teams to realize and manage the business.
  • Maintain and build good rapport, relationship with teams globally (including, but not limited to RtMJ/RtMA/RtME/RtMB/China/other related offices and MC Investment Division) and enhances “one-team” spirit across various organizations.

2. Base Metals Trading

  • Propose and set Divisional KPIs with Global Head of Base Metals.
  • Maximise Profits and minimise Losses for Base Metals trades on a Global basis, working closely with the corporate teams to manage various types of risks such as credit, market, legal and operational risk.
  • Hold regular meetings with all entities and communicate with Division/Department Heads / Front team from time to time, to capture the market status, business, and customers’ status in each region. Any internal application/report in need should be consulted / discussed before going to Global Head of Base Metals.
  • Handle the internal application/reports related to Base Metals (such as Gendo application, new transactions) in need for RtMI side (explanation to Global Head of Base Metals, application to EXECO cooperating with each entity.)
  • Checks and approves the pre-deal arrangements (KYC/STC, partner code registration, Gendo application of Credit, Warehouse) and the deals (sales/purchase contracts, warehouse agreements etc).
  • Monitors and ensure contracts and approval audit trails are well organized and documented.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with industrial players (suppliers/customers/traders) to enhance trading capabilities based on existing business priorities.
  • Maintain close communication and close collaboration with Investment divisions in Tokyo headquarters in Japanese to assess marketability of any product MC headquarters may invest in the future.

3. Risk Management

  • Monitor trading limit and ensure all the members trade within limits set and comply with internal rules.
  • Ensure that risk is managed within the designated limit and make efforts to always minimize such risk.
  • Oversee team members in their liaison with the risk management division to prepare and complete all credit line applications (including warehouse credit lines) and resolve issues with Credit Insurers in a timely manner.
  • Oversee team members in their liaison with legal and compliance division and prepare the drafts of various special and ordinary contract clauses / agreements.
  • Supervise team members to liaise with Legal and Compliance Department and prepare, modify company contracts and check counterparty contracts, amend documents as and when necessary.

4. Strategy and Analysis

  • Support Global Head in Operational Analysis and Strategy planning: Conduct an in-depth analysis of RtM operations in collaboration with regional heads where necessary. This includes studying the business models, market demands, forecasting industry and market trends. Ensures smooth integration of operations from mining to the end-user.
  • Based on the analysis, design the team strategy together with Global Head of Base Metals.
  • Support Global Head in leading Strategy Execution: Initiate, execute and implement the strategy designed especially those for enhancing the global procurement of Base Metals

Required Knowledge and Experience

  • Degree in business-related fields, and/or economics and mathematics.
  • At least 8 – 10 years of relevant working experience in both physical and paper trading of base metals, preferably from in a major trading house.
  • At least 3-4 years of relevant experience managing a team and proven people management skills.
  • Good freight exposure/knowledge and knowledge of handling Bill of Lading, Letter of Credit and Bill for Collections, etc.
  • Good knowledge & experience of offtake arrangements, paper markets, hedging and traded markets.
  • Proven and balanced commercial decision-making skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills as well as influencing and negotiation skills.
  • Advance knowledge of insurance, import duties, indirect tax such as VAT, GST etc and compliance.
  • Business Proficiency in both written and verbal English and Japanese are mandatory as communication and close collaboration with Investment Division in Tokyo Headquarters is required to assess marketability of any product MC Headquarters may invest in the future.
  • Business Proficiency Chinese is preferred but not mandatory for communication with counterparties.
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritize work.
  • Ability to work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to details.
  • Excellent PC skills – advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office as well as trading systems, and willingness to learn new systems.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Experience of logistics for containers and chartering bulk vessels.
  • Advance knowledge of middle-office operations, especially in Mark-to-Market.
  • Advance knowledge of back-office operations.
  • Experienced working in a multi-cultural environment.
