Mandai Wildlife Group is the steward of Mandai Wildlife Reserve, a unique wildlife and nature destination in Singapore that is home to world-renown wildlife parks which connect visitors to the fascinating world of wildlife. The Group is driving an exciting rejuvenation plan at Mandai Wildlife Reserve, adjacent to Singapore’s Central Catchment Nature Reserve, that will integrate five wildlife parks with distinctive nature-based experiences, green public spaces and an eco-friendly resort.
Role Overview
Assistant Curator, Avian Breeding and Research Centre will oversee the day-to-day operations, ensure the successful breeding of the bird species in the Breeding and Research Centre and build the capacity of a young and enthusiastic team.

Main Duties And Responsibilities
Collection Plant Implementation
- Breed the birds following the collection plan priorities, needs of Bird Paradise for the guest experience in the walkthrough aviaries and the need of ark or insurance population for threatened species.
- Ensure the health, welfare, and proper care of birds by reviewing and implementing animal care protocols, monitoring animal behaviour and health, and coordinating veterinary care with the Veterinary Healthcare Department.
- Ensure that all aspects of the facility, such as animal habitats and aviaries, are well-maintained and comply with MWG standards.
- Develop the capacity of a young team by supervising, mentoring and training. Be team focused and effectively manage the workflow.
- Conduct / assist / supervise current or future research for the Breeding and Research Centre.
- Bachelor degree in zoology or related life science discipline
- Substantial experience working as an aviculturist in a zoological or conservation–breeding facility.
- Experience with environmental and behavioural requirements of birds
- Good understanding of the five domains of animal welfare
- Experience in bird reproduction requirements, mating opportunities and health checks on all bird species within the department
- Experienced in hand-rearing techniques and natural incubation protocols.
- Be able to demonstrate good leadership qualities, experience in staff training and capacity building would be an advantage.
- Competency in the use of computers and basic software packages, including ZIMS software, would be advantageous.
