Job Responsibility


The Assistant Technical Superintendent supports the Technical Superintendent in ensuring the safe, efficient, and cost-effective technical management of assigned vessels. This includes maintenance planning, compliance with statutory and class requirements, and supporting dry docking and repair activities. This role is also designed as an understudy position for professional development toward a future Technical Superintendent role, with a focus on learning, observation, and skill-building.


Job Accountability


Engineering Operations

  • Assist in implementing the planned maintenance system (PMS) across assigned vessels.
  • Coordinate routine maintenance, dry-docking schedules, and technical inspections.
  • Support sourcing and follow-up of spare parts, consumables, and external repair services.
  • Liaise with ship staff to ensure engineering matters are addressed promptly.

Compliance & Reporting

  • Assist in ensuring compliance with class, flag state, and international maritime regulations.
  • Help maintain technical records, inspection logs, and maintenance documentation.

Procurement & Budget Support

  • Work with the procurement team to gather quotes, raise purchase requests, and track delivery.
  • Assist in monitoring costs related to spares and repairs under supervision.

Safety & Incident Support

  • Support investigations into incidents or equipment failures from a technical perspective.
  • Actively participate in the implementation of safety practices and procedures.

Self-Development & Understudy

  • Actively engage in on-the-job learning as an understudy to the Technical Superintendent.

Other Duties

  • Support technical projects and ad-hoc assignments from technical team / management.
  • Provide administrative support including report preparation, data entry, and tracking tasks.

Educational /Skills Qualification

  • Education: Diploma or Degree in Marine engineer/mechanical engineer or similar role. Maritime COC is an advantage
  • Experience: At least 1–2 years in a Marine Engineering/Ship engineer or Workshop related role

  • Good teamwork and communication skills
  • Ability to follow instructions and maintain safety standards
  • Physically fit and willing to work in shipyard or onboard environments as needed
