Automation Systems Technician
VERTICAL OCEANS PTE. LTD.

About Vertical Oceans
Vertical Oceans is on a mission to revolutionize aquaculture with next-generation sustainable, land-based seafood production. Our world-leading technology integrates biology, engineering, and computational technologies to produce high-quality shrimp and other aquatic species in a zero discharge hyper-efficient recirculating aquaculture system. By harnessing cutting-edge research, advanced analytics and computational modelling, we define new standards for sustainability and efficiency in the global seafood industry.
Role Overview
The technician will participate in the entire life-cycle of our automation projects, from control-board layout to field commissioning. Responsibilities include drafting and debugging PCBs, programming PLCs and deploying infrastructure that feed IIoT gateways for real-time monitoring. Typical assignments range from wastewater-filtration controls and algae-lighting systems to other equipment (pumps, motors) installation and troubleshooting. The role also covers panel fabrication and wiring, industrial-sensor integration and underwater cameras installation. Routine duties involve electrical testing, instrumentation troubleshooting, and optimisation of dashboards.
Skills & Experience
- Academic foundation in Electronics & Communication or Mechatronics Engineering, strengthened by postgraduate work in industrial automation.
- Practical fluency in programming and commissioning PLCs
- Familiar with distributed-control architectures, including IIoT gateway installation, sensor onboarding, and dashboard setup.
- Proficiency in at least one software stack: C/C++, Python, or Node-RED, applied to embedded microcontrollers (Arduino, Raspberry Pi) and data-acquisition tasks.
- Working knowledge of MCC/panel wiring standards and the full spectrum of industrial sensors.
- Familiarity with OpenCV or comparable embedded-vision libraries would be a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to organise and prioritise workloads across multiple concurrent projects within a dynamic engineering and operations team.
