Job Summary:
The Director of the Singapore Office will lead the strategic and operational management of the company’s regional headquarters and applied research facility. This role combines leadership, innovation, and business development to drive the growth of Company's Southeast Asia presence.
The Director will oversee lab operations, foster industry and academic partnerships, manage a cross-functional team, and ensure alignment with the company’s global vision and standards.
Key Responsibilities :
Strategic Leadership
- Provide leadership and vision for the Singapore Office and in alignment with global business goals.
- Develop and execute strategic plans for business growth, innovation, and regional expansion.
- Act as the key representative for the company in Southeast Asia, fostering relationships with government agencies, clients, and research institutions.
Operational Management
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Singapore office and applied lab, including HR, compliance, finance, and facility management.
- Ensure that lab operations comply with local regulations, industry standards, and internal protocols.
- Manage budgets, resources, and performance metrics for operational efficiency and cost- effectiveness.
Team Leadership and Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop a multidisciplinary team of researchers, engineers, scientists, and administrative staff.
- Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Conduct regular performance reviews and support talent development initiatives.
Applied Lab
- Direct applied research initiatives, pilot programs, and product testing aligned with market and customer needs.
- Ensure high standards of lab safety, data integrity, and intellectual property protection.
- Collaborate with R&D and product teams to translate research into commercial solutions.
Business Development and Partnerships
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities, strategic partnerships, and funding opportunities within the region.
- Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and government forums.
- Build and maintain relationships with academic institutions, research organizations, and industry stakeholders.
Reporting and Communication
- Provide regular updates to global leadership on regional performance, risks, and opportunities.
- Prepare reports, presentations, and strategic recommendations for executive leadership.
- Act as a communication bridge between global and regional teams.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Strong understanding of the Southeast Asian business environment and regulatory landscape.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and leadership skills.
Roles & Responsibilities
Daily Activities of the Director – Singapore Office
1. Leadership & People Management
- Conduct daily or weekly stand-up meetings with team leads or department heads.
- Review and approve team schedules, resource allocations, and project timelines.
- Address any HR issues, team concerns, or personnel requests.
2. Operations Oversight
- Monitor the functioning of office to ensure smooth daily operations.
- Review lab activity logs, safety reports, and maintenance schedules.
- Ensure compliance with local regulations and internal SOPs (safety, data handling, ethics, etc.).
- Approve procurement requests, lab equipment usage, and supply orders.
3. Project & Research Supervision
- Oversee ongoing applied research or pilot projects.
- Review daily/weekly progress reports from technical teams.
- Evaluate test data, experimental results, or product validation updates.
4. Business Development & External Engagement
- Engage with potential partners, collaborators, or clients via calls or meetings.
- Review proposals, partnership agreements, or funding applications.
- Attend (or prepare for) industry webinars, government briefings, or investor calls. Network with academic or research institutions for potential collaborations
. Financial & Administrative Duties
- Review and approve expense reports, vendor payments, and budget requests.
- Liaise with finance and legal teams for audits, compliance filings, or regulatory matters.
- Approve travel requests, training expenses, and operational costs.
- Manage payroll queries or resource allocation requests.
. Innovation & Culture Building
- Encourage brainstorming sessions, internal workshops, or cross-team knowledge sharing.
- Identify skill gaps or training needs and coordinate learning programs.
- Promote a culture of innovation, transparency, and ownership.
. Plant coordination
- Must coordinate product requirements with the plant and ensure that all products being sold in the region are being produced in a timely manner, upholding all quality standards.
Weekly/Monthly Routine Additions:
- Conduct one-on-one reviews with key staff.
- Review and approve project proposals or funding applications.
- Host strategic meetings with global HQ.
- Submit monthly performance summaries and future plans.
- Necessary to travel to Head Office (India) every month for 1 to 2 weeks in order to work with the head office and the plants.
