To act as the primary contact and provide day-to-day core compliance advisory support to the Japanese Corporate Banking business in Singapore branch. Play a key role in ensuring compliance matters are adequately addressed and escalated to senior management, where necessary. To also support the delivery of Regional Compliance Program or key topics impacting Japanese Corporate Banking businesses in APAC and accordingly provide relevant support to Country Compliance Officers across MUFG branches in APAC.
Good knowledge and appreciation of MAS regulations and industry best practices is required. Candidates with prior experience in a country compliance role covering other business lines in a bank will also be considered.
Job Responsibilities:
JCBD Business Compliance Advisory
- To assist the Singapore Compliance Officer and the Regional Head of JCBD Compliance Advisory in delivering ACO’s strategy and implementation of a robust and structured compliance program in SG branch and as well as regionally in ACO.
- To provide sound compliance advice and work with relevant stakeholders to co-develop risk-proportionate, pragmatic and cost-effective solutions that balances regulatory and business requirements.
- To provide the appropriate review, challenge & approval as required, on new business initiatives, products and transactions from Singapore, and attribute to overall accountability to ACO management and the local regulator for the compliance program for SG branch and regionally, where applicable.
- To engage the business stakeholders on key compliance risks identified and actions required. Ensure timely identification, escalation and remediation of issues by driving a no-surprises culture and ensuring comprehensive and timely actions plans with a focus on immediate control of issues and sustainability.
- Conduct Compliance Risk Assessments and provide Management Information relating to salient compliance matters or issues to the business management and SG branch management.
- To work in close collaboration with other ACO Subject Matter Experts (‘SMEs’) and Financial Crime Office of Asia for the successful delivery and implementation of local/regional/global programs relevant to Japanese Corporate banking businesses in APAC.
- To support the Compliance Officers across APAC branches in managing and mitigating compliance risks, and strengthening the local compliance framework via effective implementation of compliance programs that are in line with regional and global standards for the JCBD business.
- Expected to support SG compliance coverage of other business units (Transaction Banking, Global Markets, Global Corporate & Investment Banking) or other SG compliance matters pertaining to SG branch, as required on an adhoc basis (e.g. interim cover in the absence of another team member, adhoc assignment by team lead, etc).
- To maintain good working knowledge of industry trends, products, relevant laws and regulations, and support in the development of appropriate and practical solutions and processes that are in line with industry best practice.
- To support projects, initiatives or take on added responsibilities, as required by ACO Management or Singapore Compliance Officer.
Job Requirements:
- Degree qualified
- Minimum 5 years of relevant compliance experience at a financial institution, regulator, or audit firm in Singapore.
- Good knowledge of banking products and services relating to Corporate Banking.
- Strong understanding of banking and financial regulations in Singapore (Banking Act, Securities & Futures Act, Financial Advisers Act, Personal Data Protection Act)
- Strong analytical skills and demonstrable ability to make sound judgment based on imperfect information
- Strong interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills and be able to influence and manage a wide range of stakeholders.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Positive attitude, driven, motivated, and proactive in supporting the team’s compliance deliverables. Ability to thrive in a changing environment and remain resilient under pressure.
