  • Supervising and Training Staff: Train and supervise cooks, prep cooks, and other kitchen staff, ensuring they adhere to recipes and kitchen standards.
  • Food Preparation and Quality Control: They ensure food is prepared according to established recipes and quality standards, and they may also be involved in developing new dishes.
  • Menu Planning and Inventory Management: Sous Chefs may assist with menu planning, manage inventory (ordering, receiving, and storage of ingredients), and implement cost control measures.
  • Maintaining Kitchen Standards: They ensure the kitchen adheres to health and safety regulations, maintain cleanliness, and troubleshoot equipment issues.
  • Acting as Second-in-Command: In the absence of the Head Chef, the Sous Chef may assume responsibility for the kitchen's operations and decision-making.
  • Collaboration and Communication: They work closely with the Head Chef, line cooks, and other staff to ensure efficient kitchen operations and timely service.
