Job Description Summary

Responsible for developing, implementing, and optimizing production processes to ensure the highest standards of safety, quality, delivery, and cost (SQDC). This role is responsible for additive manufacturing and welding for the repair of aircraft engine components. This includes Direct Metal Laser Melting (DMLM), Laser Cladding/Welding, Plasma Arc Welding and TIG welding. The process engineer troubleshoots issues that arise in day-to-day operations, implements process improvements and introduces new equipment and processes

GEAESS is our largest site for engine component Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO), responsible for more than 60% of our global repair volume.

Role Overview:

  • The Special Process Engineer is responsible for ensuring that the special processes including but not limited additive manufacturing, PAW and TIG arc welding processes meet quality requirements and operational objectives for repair of jet engine components in GE Aerospace Singapore.

  • This will include developing welding parameters, automatic process and generating work instructions and operating procedures for the special welding processes.

  • Implement new welding processes in collaboration with product engineers and repair development engineers. Ensure the quality of welding operations.

  • Monitor the process yield and implement corrective actions to reduce/eliminate rework.

  • Work with operations to improve equipment utilization, productivity and reduce operating costs. Work with operations and maintenance personnel to minimize equipment downtime.

  • Prepare technical specifications for the purchase and upgrading of DMLM, laser cladding and arc welding equipment.

  • Conduct buy-off, machine qualification and process substantiation.

  • Conduct Risk Assessments and ensure that laser processes and welding processes are operated in compliance with Environmental, Health and Safety Regulations and Policies.

  • Conduct training for special process technicians.

Ideal Candidate:

  • The ideal candidate for this role is an adaptable and creative engineer with at least 3 years of experience in the aerospace industry and welding related. They should possess strong process development skills to qualify new process for the production and effectively solve problems. They should have strong capability to prioritize multi-tasks and be able to take pressure. The candidate must collaborate well with quality, production and NPI teams, maintaining comprehensive documentation, willing to support new shop setups.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Metallurgy, Materials Science or other Physical Sciences.

  • 3+ years’ experience in manufacturing, aerospace, or other related industries.

  • Good understanding of additive manufacturing and laser & arc welding processes.

  • Solid problem-solving skills (ability to manage and resolve conflict, communicate issues and propose solutions to stakeholders).

  • Able to influence others.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Manufacturing experience with vision systems, laser/Optics.

  • Able to multi-task effectively and manage multiple priorities at one time.

  • Able to work effectively with minimum supervision.

  • Strong organizational and project management skills.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
