Job Summary

We are seeking an intelligent, energetic and highly motivated candidate to fulfill this role – Legal Counsel, Corporate. The successful candidate will work on a broad spectrum of legal, corporate and transactional matters, focusing primarily on construction, power, renewable energy and real estate transactions in the Asia-Pacific region.


Responsibilities

  • Being a close partner to the business, the successful candidate will assist in a broad spectrum of legal, corporate and transactional matters. He/she will focus primarily on construction, power, renewable energy and real estate transactions and matters in the Asia Pacific region

  • Independently lead negotiations and manage all types of construction, power, renewable energy and real estate transactions, both core retail as well as our hyperscale businesses, including construction agreements, power purchase agreements, virtual power purchase agreements, sale and purchase agreements, leases, licences and development agreements

  • Interpret contracts, provide legal advice and resolve disputes arising with respect to existing construction projects, power and renewable energy projects, real estate portfolio and corporate development projects

  • Provide power-related advice, including negotiating power purchase agreements, structuring virtual power purchase agreements, assisting with substation construction arrangements, and assisting with regulatory advice regarding power capacity and campus structuring

  • Advise on any issues arising under foreign investment rules and regulations, and working with others in One Legal on regulatory and compliance related matters associated with construction, power, renewable energy and real estate transactions in Asia Pacific

  • Effectively and efficiently manage outside counsel. Adapt to and understand local customs with respect to Asia Pacific transactions

  • Navigate competing workflows, set appropriate priorities with stakeholders and deliver results within agreed timelines

  • Think creatively and devise solutions to challenging problems, including making and articulating determinations regarding risks and benefits

    • Exercise mature and reliable judgment while enjoying Equinix’s enthusiastic, informal and fast-paced environment
  • Willing to develop new areas of expertise, solve problems, be flexible and having the desire to work on challenging and new projects to support a lean and highly efficient legal team

  • Having a sound understanding of business decisions related to Equinix’s status as a REIT

  • Conduct presentations, train and educate the business team members on legal review processes and procedures

  • Function as part of the Global & Regional Business Affairs (Asia Pacific) Team and wider global legal team, including engaging with other departments, providing input on construction, power, renewable energy and real estate transactions related issues, undertaking any global projects, initiatives, deals, corporate or other commercial transactions as may arise or be assigned


Qualifications

  • Law degree from a recognised university and possesses at least 5 years’ post qualification experience; with some experience in a law firm. The ideal candidate should have strong construction, power, renewable energy and real estate transaction experience, with at least 3 years of dedicated transactional construction, power and renewable energy practice. Admitted to practice in any Commonwealth jurisdiction

  • Ability and drive to take initiative and ownership of projects and tasks. Demonstrated ability to be the point person responsible for negotiating and closing transactions

  • Previous experience regarding energy law and power purchase agreements will be a plus

  • Experience or familiarity with data centers and the colocation and telecommunications services industries will be a plus

  • Prepared to use technology in managing day to day tasks. Articulate, with great communication and drafting skills and highly effective in English

  • Competent, accurate, proactive, resourceful, independent, organised, able to prioritise effectively to meet deadlines, address risk, achieve results, an effective time manager with strong interpersonal skills with a focus on teamwork and ability to foster/manage relationships across multiple departments

  • Adaptable, flexible, pragmatic and solution-oriented, you must be willing to work and collaborate with the business to address tough legal and regulatory challenges in the digital and information age

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and to handle a demanding workload with multiple assignments and projects simultaneously

  • Experience working in a culturally diverse and global company a plus


Location

  • Based in Singapore and prepared to travel regionally and internationally for work
