About Us

The Children and Youth Group (CYG) in The Salvation Army Singapore serves hundreds of vulnerable children and youth yearly. In line with our vision to provide a continuum of care to uplift those in need, our services span from preventive services, foster care and residential services to reunification support services for vulnerable children returning to their natural families after being removed due to safety concerns. We believe that every child is precious and unique and children grow best in families. We also believe in the potential of every child and family to transform and thrive.

About the job

Youth Development Centre will provide youth mental health programmes, runs a drop in centre and provides specialised supervision for access of child protection involved children with their parents. We are growing our youth mental health services and are looking for a passionate and dynamic Social Worker to join us.


Serving mostly youth mental health clients, you will need to (i) provide professional services to assess, plan and execute interventions for clients through the support of volunteers; (ii) reach out to youth and their families; (iii) grow our volunteer pool; (iv) ensure safety of the vulnerable children, their families, volunteers and staff through good risk assessment and management. You will also support in programme development, execution and evaluation, as well as other services in the Children and Youth Group (CYG) as and when required,


We are looking for someone with a "Can Do" spirit who is creative in problem solving, with a passion for making a difference vulnerable children and families and have that special ability to connect and inspire volunteers. A good team player, and someone who has the passion for youth mental health, with a family-centric lens.


Experience in working with youth, mental health and/or adverse childhood experiences such as abuse and neglect, is preferred.


MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:


1. Outreach and Case Management/Supervision

1.1 Participate and contribute to outreach to youth with adverse childhood experiences as they have higher risks for mental health issues
1.2 Provide case management to support cases allocated to you, including assessment, case planning, intervention and review.
1.3 Coordinate and facilitate internal case discussions and networking and case conferences with other agencies.
1.3. Build up a strong network with the community to enable access to help for our clients.
1.4 Assess safety risks for clients, families and volunteers and do safety planning for cases.
1.5 Manage crisis and provide de-escalation when needed.
1.6 Advocate and represent the rights, needs and welfare of our clients through various official platforms, to address service gaps, concerns or issues that will promote and enhance the service delivery for our beneficiaries.
1.7 Maintain proper documentation of cases.


2. Volunteer Pool Development and Management

2.1 Recruit volunteers to engage in outreach and group facilitation work.
2.2 Assess, screen and prepare volunteers for working with our target groups.
2.3 Develop and execute training to equip volunteers with the appropriate knowledge and skillsets to engage with our target groups


3. Community Resources and networking

3.1 Establish close working partnership both internally and with other stakeholders and institutions so as to maximise our community resources and support systems.

4. Programme development and management

4.1 You will support your supervisors in the development and evaluation of our programmes where needed.
4.2 Plan and facilitate group work sessions for our target groups, which include youth and caregivers.


5. Professional Development

5.1 Maintain professional knowledge, ethics and skills, and initiate personal responsibility, self- development and education.
5.2 Keep up to date with the current trends of the social service sector as well as the needs of the client group.

6. Administration

6.1 Undertake report writing/editing or proposal submission as and when required.
6.2 Contribute strategic inputs at a macro level for YDC with the support of the Centre Manager
6.3 Support in staff orientation/ appraisal/training when required.
6.4 Ensure all outcomes and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are achieved at all times.
6.5 Ensure the accuracy of reporting to funders (e.g. MSF) by working closely with the Administrative Assistant.
6.6 Undertake any other duties as and when required and in consistent with the position.


QUALIFICATIONS

Qualifications

  • Degree in Social Work from a recognisable university
  • At least 1-2 years in direct social work is preferred.
  • Experience in working with children and youths and their families

OTHER INFORMATION

DUTY HOURS:

Please be informed that it is a 5-day work week and the total work hours is 44 hours per week. 10am to 7pm Monday to Friday (inclusive 1 hour lunch break)

It will be at the discretion of the Centre Manager to determine whether you will be required to work any of the unutilized hours accordingly to the operational needs of the unutilized hours according to the operational needs of the centre and within the legitimacy of the employment laws where applicable.

However, you are expected to work beyond normal hours based on exigencies of services and thus flexi-time arrangement is required.
