PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
Join the BBC World Service to launch a brand-new podcast from our Singapore bureau, bringing Asian perspectives to global issues and delivering original reporting on the most compelling stories across Asia-Pacific. As Lead Presenter, you’ll shape the voice and editorial identity of a digital-first programme designed for YouTube and audio platforms- connecting with new audiences across the region. You’ll play a key role in delivering engaging and insightful journalism.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT
- Has a developed presentation style that is fluent, engages the viewer and listener.
- Adapts style for different subjects.
- Observes BBC Editorial Guidelines always ensuring impartiality and balance.
- Interviews specialists and those involved at the centre of stories, comfortable with policy makers, high profile people, and audiences.
- Broadcasts in a manner which is, engaging, entertaining and readily understandable by a non-specialist audience, making complex issues accessible.
- Generates ideas and stories; contributes to the creative treatment and production of an item or programme; provides clear treatments and proposals, ensuring consistency of content, quality and style.
- Make the best use of new technologies – in particular developments in digital and social media platforms – in delivering our journalism to audiences. Sets an example in learning to operate new systems and adapting to different working methods.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
- An experienced presenter with a strong on-camera presence and excellent audio storytelling skills - has proved their ability and built a relationship with the audience.
- Extensive knowledge of the Asia-Pacific, either being from the region or having lived there for a significant period, as well as a detailed understanding of global affairs and how they relate to the region.
- Demonstrates balanced and impartial judgement.
- Strong team working and ability to build strong relationships with key people in other parts of the BBC.
- Ability to convey story and programme ideas and to contribute fully to the planning process
- The flexibility to sustain performance, particularly under pressure to meet deadlines and changing priorities and circumstances.
- Adaptable and responsive to feedback, helping the team evolve the podcast format creatively.
DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED:
- Experience presenting news content specifically for digital platforms
- Experience working alongside social and digital teams.
