PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
Join the BBC World Service to launch a brand-new podcast from our Singapore bureau, bringing Asian perspectives to global issues and delivering original reporting on the most compelling stories across Asia-Pacific. As a Senior Journalist Team Manager, you’ll shape the editorial direction and identity of a digital-first programme designed for YouTube and audio platforms- connecting with new audiences across the region. You’ll play a key role in delivering insightful, wide-reaching content.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT
- Responsible for the editorial direction of the podcast; originating and producing stories which may include scripting, editing, outputting, content across a range of BBC output including digital, audio and the News Channel.
- Commission and select relevant materials ensuring they meet expectations of our audiences and adhere to the BBC’s editorial guidelines.
- Will be required to edit material for broadcast where appropriate, may be required to undertake on-air reporting.
- As required, to allocate work to a team and check progress; ensure the professional contribution of staff and the quality of output. Able to lead the team on a day to day basis, but also contribute ideas and support to the overall management of the site, its team, finances and agenda.
- To act as a facilitator of change, clearly communicating and distributing best practices between teams.
- Delivering to tight deadlines while maintaining the highest editorial standards.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
- A high standard of editorial judgment, writing ability and production skills based on substantial broadcast journalism experience.
- Extensive knowledge of Asia-Pacific and experience living or working in the region, as well as a detailed understanding of global affairs and how they relate to the region.
- High level of interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to resolve conflicts as necessary and to navigate relationships with editors and leaders across the BBC.
- Ability to manage resources, staff, technical facilities and budgets, in order to make challenging broadcasting in the most cost-effective manner.
- Demonstrates a commitment to improving diversity in the BBC and understands how individual differences can benefit the BBC.
- Prioritises and plans activities considering all the relevant issues and factors such as deadlines, staffing and resources.
- The flexibility and adaptability to sustain performance, particularly under pressure to meet deadlines and changing priorities and circumstances.
DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED:
- Digital media experience; using digital media tools and production skills to source and create content that resonate with audiences
- Experience working with or alongside social teams.
- Experience editing on FCP or similar systems.
