Within BP’s Supply, Trading and Shipping (ST&S) Division, and a part of the Global Oil trading business, Global Distillates (GDIST) trades all products from the middle and bottom of the barrel, in all geographies. A large, global business, it is active in trading, marketing, origination, and above all support to the wider BP Group and its assets


You will report to the Regional Book Leader as an employee of ST&S in a front line trading role, with accountabilities and DOA to support the day to day physical trading activity of the book. You will work in close collaboration with other GDIST traders, Originators, C&P Midstream as well as other relevant stakeholders.


This position based in bp’s Singapore office will be working with a core focus on physical markets traded by GDIST and bp’s downstream businesses in Australia and New Zealand.

At all times you will be required to be compliant with BP’s trading guidelines, ethics, control, HSSE and ship vetting policies, Reporting Relationships


Key Accountabilites

Working closely with the GDIST EH Trading Book Leader and other members of the GDIST team, you will have the following key accountabilities as they progress through on the job learning and development:

  • Physically supply bp’s assets in Australia and New Zealand
  • Deep relationships with bp’s downstream businesses to work together to monetise the assets
  • Interpret market analytics and market intelligence to form a view on physical supply and demand balances
  • Identification, development, implementation and execution of speculative physical trades;
  • Conduct continual dialogue with market participants, establishing and building a network of 3rd party relationships across brokers and market participants;
  • Maintain an accurate and assured exposure process;
  • Identification of new opportunities emerging as markets develop;
  • Participation in GDIST strategic discussions’
  • Collaborate with wider GDIST team in the East and other regions to identify synergies
  • Work with the Originators and Traders to deliver Eastern GDIST strategy and origination agenda within bp’s code of conduct.
  • Represent BP externally to counterparties, at conferences, with customers and within various business development forums and with all relevant internal contacts.
  • Depending on performance, the role is seen as a key feeder role for succession into other more senior GDIST commercial roles


Essential Education, Experience and Job Requirements

You will need to be a self-starter that is driven to find opportunities to grow value and be a team player that works well in both global and local teams:

  • Bachelor Commercial degree or equivalent
  • Deep knowledge of Australia and New Zealand supply chains
  • Must have a Recommend from bp’s Assessed Traders Course – a highly regarded, structured and rigorous evaluation that ensures individuals are suitable for front line trading roles – or Equivalent
  • Prior experience working within BP preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience & proven successful track record in delivering commercial value
  • Quickly picks up and able to develop new concepts and ideas and adapt to a changing environment
  • Strong influencing skills, with an ability to build consensus and engagement across teams, functions and geographies
  • Able to manage and build strong counterparty relationships in a short period of time with external and internal parties whom incumbent has not met or worked with before.
  • Strong analytical, commercial and logistics skills with an excellent attention to detail.
  • Clearly understands and can articulate the sources of trading value
  • Clearly understands and can articulate exposure management.
  • Knowledge of the distillate supply & trading industry incl fundamental balances of Global Distillates
