Job Description
The National University of Singapore invites applications for a research fellow position in the Department of Physiology, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. The laboratory of Associate Professor Ling Shuo-Chien focuses on understanding the pathogenic mechanisms underlying adult-onset neurodegenerative diseases by constructing in vitro and in vivo models followed by a multidisciplinary approach combining genomic quantitative analysis, molecular and cellular studies with the goal of understanding disease pathogenic mechanisms (neuronal vulnerability and non-cell-autonomous toxicity) and harnessing anti-aging potential to understand and combat adult-onset neurodegenerative diseases.
The lab is located in the S9 Building at NUS and they maintain collaborative efforts with many groups in Singapore, including but not limited to DUKE-NUS, NNI, TLL, NTU and Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology (IMCB), and internationally.
Purpose of the post
The Research Fellow (RF) will work closely with the Principal Investigator, other members of the laboratory as well as scientific collaborators to ensure the successful completion of research projects.
Main duties and responsibilities
The Research Fellow will be responsible for the following:
- Be proactive in driving the project, working closely with the PI and other members of the laboratory as well as collaborators to ensure the generation and collection of appropriate data
- Be responsible for analyzing, integrating and presenting data collected from the various research efforts
- Presentation of data to lab members and collaborators during regular meetings
- Assist in any other duties delegated by the PI
Qualifications
The applicant should:
- Doctoral degree (MBBS, MD, PhD) in science
- Highly motivated and passionate for research
- Experience in routine cell biology, biochemistry and molecular biology techniques
- Expertise in one of the following areas is preferred (but not required): mouse or stem cell models, electrophysiology, glial biology, RNA biology, lipid biology, bioinformatics, live imaging microscopy, chemogenetics or optogenetics
- Able to work independently and effectively with precision and possess good organizational skills
- Strong interpersonal skills as an effective team player
