Job Summary

Support the Fleet Manager by implementing and improving safety, quality, and environmental systems onboard vessels. Monitor vessel performance, safety activities, and commercial operations to ensure compliance and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Implement, maintain, and continuously improve the Company’s Safety Management System, Quality, Safety, and Environmental Protection functions onboard vessels and within the company
  • Assist the Fleet Manager in applying Fleet Management System and advise on vessel performance to optimize operations
  • Conduct vessel inspections according to the approved ship visit plan and established procedures to ensure compliance and safety standards
  • Monitor safety and environmental protection activities onboard assigned vessels by reviewing SAFIR reports and monthly Safety Meeting outcomes
  • Analyze SAFIR and Near-Miss report trends quarterly, produce reports for the Quality Assurance Committee, and recommend corrective actions
  • Monitor and trend vessel Risk Assessments every three months to identify and mitigate operational risks
  • Support the Fleet Manager in monitoring and implementing TMSA requirements to help the company achieve the highest possible safety standards
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of commercial aspects related to assigned vessels, including Charter Party clauses, voyage instructions, and reporting requirements
  • Manage pre-loading surveys for specific cargoes and coordinate lodging of sea protests and insurance claims, ensuring follow-up until resolution
  • Handle protests from shippers, receivers, and Charterers professionally to protect company interests
  • Prepare and submit pre-arrival reports required by various port states, such as eNOA/D and ballast water exchange reports
  • Report periodically to the Fleet Manager on vessels’ vetting status, planning, progress, and any issues that could affect acceptance by Charterers or Pool partners
  • Propose amendments and revisions to the Safety Management System to prevent recurrence of nonconformities
  • Develop plans and instructions for key shipboard operations and assign tasks to qualified personnel to ensure safe and efficient vessel management
  • Collect and analyze suggestions and complaints from customers, suppliers, and vessels to formulate continuous improvement programs for the Safety Management System
  • Assume the roles and responsibilities of Technical Superintendents in their absence, ensuring uninterrupted operational oversight
  • Perform additional roles and responsibilities as delegated by the Fleet Manager
