Steel Work Operation Manager in the maritime industry oversees structural repairs and fabrication for marine vessels. Core Responsibilities Workforce Management: Assign and supervise a team of steel fitters and welders for repair projects.
Onboard Repairs: Lead offshore repair squads and sail with the vessel to manage "voyage repairs" or emergency steelwork.
Project Oversight: Direct all steel fabrication and block erection processes, ensuring they meet Class society standards (e.g., ABS, DNV).
Resource Allocation: Optimize the use of manpower, materials, and specialized equipment to hit strict deadlines.
Stakeholder Liaison: Coordinate between the vessel's Master, technical managers, and port authorities to align repair schedules with sailing itineraries.
Key Qualifications Category Requirement
Experience: 8–10 years in shipyard management, with specific experience in offshore construction.
Technical Skills
Proficient in welding standards, and interpretation of engineering drawings.
Physical Fit
Must be physically fit for extended offshore deployment and sailing.
Operational Tasks
Drafting repair plans based on inspection reports or dry-dock requirements.
Conducting safety drills and ensuring all hot-work (welding/cutting) follows strict maritime safety protocols.
Managing budgets for materials and contractor labor to ensure cost-effective delivery.
Reporting status of repairs to shipowners and ensuring QA/QC compliance for structural integrity.
