Microsoft 365 & Backup Engineer

We are looking for a skilled Microsoft 365 & Backup Engineer. In this role, you will be responsible for managing, supporting, and optimizing Microsoft 365 services, identity and access management, security compliance, and enterprise backup operations.

You will play a key role in ensuring service availability, data protection, and operational excellence through proactive monitoring, incident management, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

1. Microsoft 365 Administration

  • Administer and manage Microsoft 365 services including:

    • Exchange Online

    • SharePoint Online

    • Microsoft Teams

    • OneDrive

    • Microsoft Copilot

  • Monitor service health, performance, and availability

  • Manage configurations, policies, and service settings

  • Support service enhancements, updates, and upgrades

2. Identity & Access Management

  • Administer Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD)

  • Manage user lifecycle (onboarding, offboarding, role changes)

  • Handle access provisioning and de-provisioning

  • Implement and manage:

    • Conditional Access policies

    • Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

    • Identity governance controls

    • Privileged Access Management (PAM)

  • Conduct periodic access reviews

3. Security & Compliance

  • Implement and maintain Microsoft 365 security controls

  • Manage and enforce security policies

  • Monitor and improve the organization's security posture

  • Investigate and respond to security alerts and incidents

  • Support compliance and audit requirements

  • Review audit logs and activity reports regularly

4. Backup Administration

  • Manage enterprise backup and recovery solutions

  • Monitor and validate backup jobs and completion status

  • Perform regular backup health checks

  • Conduct restoration and disaster recovery testing

  • Ensure recoverability of critical business data

  • Support disaster recovery planning and execution

5. Incident & Problem Management

  • Investigate and troubleshoot incidents and technical issues

  • Perform root cause analysis (RCA) and recommend preventive measures

  • Coordinate with Microsoft Support and third-party vendors

  • Ensure timely resolution of incidents

6. Documentation & Process Management

  • Maintain system and operational documentation

  • Develop and update SOPs and procedures

  • Maintain architecture and configuration records

  • Contribute to process improvements and automation

  • Maintain and enhance knowledge base repositories

7. Reporting & Governance

  • Prepare and deliver:

    • Monthly operational reports

    • Incident and problem reports

    • Service availability reports

    • Security findings reports

    • Backup status reports

    • Risk and issue logs

  • Ensure adherence to governance and compliance standards

Required Skills & Competencies

  • Strong hands-on experience in Microsoft 365 ecosystem

  • Expertise in Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD)

  • Knowledge of security & compliance frameworks

  • Experience in enterprise backup and disaster recovery tools

  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills

  • Familiarity with ITIL processes (Incident & Problem Management)

  • Excellent documentation and communication skills

Good to Have

  • Microsoft certifications (e.g., MS-100, MS-101, SC-300, AZ-104, MS-102)

  • Experience with security tools like Microsoft Defender suite

  • Exposure to automation using PowerShell or scripting

  • Experience in large enterprise or managed services environments
