Dry Bulk FFA Analyst

Responsibilities

  • Conduct fundamental and quantitative analysis across the energy value chain, including but not limited to crude oil, refined products, natural gas, LNG, power, and renewable energy markets
  • Monitor developments in dry bulk commodity markets, including iron ore, coal, bauxite, grains, fertilizers, and minor bulks, and assess their impact on seaborne trade and freight rates
  • Track vessel supply dynamics, fleet growth, orderbooks, scrapping activity, port congestion, ballast positioning, fleet utilization, and shipping regulations affecting freight markets
  • Analyze key freight market indicators including vessel movements, cargo flows, ton-mile demand, voyage economics, bunker costs, port operations, and freight derivatives (FFA) markets
  • Utilize AI tools and data analytics techniques to enhance market research, automate workflows, and generate actionable insights
  • Build and maintain datasets, dashboards, models, and analytical reports to support trading, investment, and risk decisions
  • Perform market intelligence gathering from structured and unstructured sources, including shipping databases, vessel tracking systems, broker reports, port data, trade statistics, and news flows
  • Develop freight forecasts, supply-demand balances, scenario analyses, and trade flow models across major dry bulk routes and vessel classes
  • Collaborate closely with trading, chartering, operations, risk, and technology teams to improve market intelligence and analytical frameworks
  • Prepare concise reports, presentations, and market commentary highlighting freight market developments, risks, and trading opportunities

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Finance, Maritime Studies, Engineering, Science, Supply Chain, Transportation, or related disciplines
  • 2–5 years of relevant experience in dry bulk shipping, freight trading, commodities research, vessel operations, chartering, shipping analytics, or related fields
  • Strong understanding of dry bulk freight market fundamentals, including vessel supply-demand dynamics, trade flows, freight pricing mechanisms, and shipping market structure
  • Knowledge of major dry bulk commodities, global trade routes, port infrastructure, and maritime industry developments
  • Familiarity with freight derivatives (FFA), voyage economics, vessel tracking platforms, or shipping databases is preferred
  • Familiarity with AI tools, large language models, or data-driven analytical workflows is preferred
  • Proficiency in Excel, Python, SQL, Power BI, Tableau, or other analytical and visualization tools is advantageous
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with the ability to translate complex market information into commercial insights
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic trading environment with strong attention to detail and commercial awareness
  • Proficiency in Excel, Python, SQL, or data visualization tools is advantageous
