Medical Laboratory Technologist

Join a dynamic team in the Department of Pathology, where you will play a vital role in histological testing for disease treatment and diagnosis. This position offers the opportunity to contribute significantly to laboratory operations and patient care.
Responsibilities
- Receive and process laboratory specimens, assigning charge codes and rejecting unacceptable samples.
- Assist pathologists in trimming and evaluating specimens.
- Execute various technical functions, including processing, embedding, microtomy, and performing routine and complex staining.
- Prepare and label slides and ensure block checks are performed accurately.
- Conduct gross examination of simple and uncomplicated specimens.
- Perform frozen cryo-sectioning as needed.
- Manage after-hours duties to support liver transplant and renal explant services.
- Maintain laboratory equipment and execute basic troubleshooting when necessary.
- Monitor staining and sectioning quality to meet established standards.
- Provide technical guidance and training to laboratory personnel on procedures.
- Prepare and maintain necessary reagents and stains per specifications.
- Follow instructions from senior staff regarding work procedures.
- Assist in conducting in-house continuing education classes.
- Adhere to good laboratory practices, protocols, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Comply with Laboratory Safety Manuals and participate in necessary training.
- Contribute to project teams as required.
- Assist in preparing for internal and external audits.
- Manage inventory of reagents and chemicals.
- Perform any other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
- Degree in Biological Sciences, Life Sciences, Biomedical Science, or an equivalent qualification is preferred.
- Relevant experience in a histology laboratory is advantageous.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and demonstrate initiative.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in multi-tasking and effective time management.
- Familiarity with applicable computer systems and software is essential.
