Solution Architect (Trade Finance)

A Banking institution is seeking a highly skilled Trade Finance Solution Architect to design and deliver end-to-end technology solutions for our trade finance and supply chain finance platforms. In this role, you will define architectural blueprints, guide development teams, and ensure that solutions are scalable, secure, and aligned with banking regulations. The ideal candidate has deep expertise in Java technology and a strong understanding of trade finance domains including letters of credit, bank guarantees, documentary collections, and supply chain finance.
Key Responsibilities
Solution Architecture
Design and architect end-to-end trade finance solutions, including originations, risk management, document processing, and settlement workflows.
Define system architecture, component diagrams, integration patterns, and data models using Java-based technologies (Spring Boot, Microservices, J2EE).
Ensure solutions are scalable, resilient, and compliant with banking security and regulatory standards.
Technology Leadership
Lead technical design discussions and guide development teams on Java best practices, design patterns, and architecture principles.
Evaluate and recommend frameworks, libraries, and tools to optimize trade finance platform performance and maintainability.
Conduct code and design reviews to ensure architectural integrity and quality.
Integration & APIs
Design APIs (REST, SOAP) for seamless integration with internal systems (core banking, payments, AML, CRM) and external partners (logistics, insurers, customs).
Architect event-driven integrations using messaging queues (Kafka, JMS) for real-time trade finance processing.
Trade Finance Domain Expertise
Translate business requirements from trade finance product owners into technical solutions covering:
Letters of Credit (Import/Export)
Bank Guarantees and Standby LCs
Documentary Collections
Supply Chain Finance and Invoice Financing
Non-Functional Requirements
Architect for high availability, disaster recovery, security, performance, and data privacy.
Implement observability frameworks (logging, monitoring, tracing) for trade finance platforms.
Stakeholder & Vendor Management
Collaborate with business stakeholders, product owners, operations teams, and enterprise architects.
Manage technical relationships with vendor platforms (e.g., Bolero, Contour, TradeIX) and integration partners.
Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
10+ years of experience in software development and solution architecture, with at least 5 years focused on trade finance or supply chain finance in banking.
Deep expertise in Java technology including:
Java 8/11/17+
Spring Framework (Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, Spring Security)
Microservices architecture and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
JPA/Hibernate, JMS, RESTful and SOAP web services
Strong knowledge of trade finance products, processes, and regulations (UCP600, URDG758, SWIFT messages).
Experience with API design, integration patterns, and middleware (Apache Camel, Mule, or similar).
Familiarity with relational and NoSQL databases (Oracle, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or similar).
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Nice to Have
Familiarity with document management systems and optical character recognition (OCR) for trade documents.
Certifications such as TOGAF, or Oracle Certified Professional (Java).
