About the role
We are looking for a Senior Analyst to join our Copper Market Analysis team in Singapore. In this role, you will help shape Rio Tinto’s understanding of copper markets by building and maintaining models used to deliver high-quality analysis, market intelligence and forecasts that support commercial decision-making.
The Copper Market Analysis team sits within Rio Tinto’s Copper Sales & Marketing team. It is responsible for providing insight and analysis to support commercial, operational and strategic decisions related to Rio Tinto’s copper business. To support this analysis the team maintains models forecasting supply, demand and prices.
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Copper Market Analysis, you will:
Maintain and develop excel-based models in collaboration with the wider Copper Market Analysis team.
Analyse competitor, customer and end-user data to identify trends and commercial opportunities.
Deliver insight to support commercial, operational and strategic decisions.
Develop market narrative to present views internally, both in written form and verbally.
Support projects and conduct detailed analysis into niche market segments based on business need.
Proactively identify commercial needs and analytical improvements to deliver high quality insights.
Collaborate with Sales and Market Analysis teams to solve commercial problems.
Look for better, simpler, ways to deliver our analysis.
About you
To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:
Desire become an expert in the copper industry and curiosity to understand what is driving the market.
Demonstrable experience in a research or analysis focused role.
Ability to critically analyse data, identify trends and key market drivers.
High attention to detail and a proactive, curious approach to problem solving.
Ability to synthesise quantitative and qualitative information into clear insights.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts clearly.
Advanced Excel skills with experience in modelling and data analysis. Willingness to learn new tools and platforms to improve process flows.
Good team-player who can work on independent projects and collaboratively as part of a global team.
It will also be beneficial if you have:
Commodity market analysis experience at a producer, consumer, trader or consultant.
Copper industry knowledge/experience gained in an operational or corporate role.
Experience building and managing supply-demand models and forecasting tools.
