The merger of Aviva Singapore and Singlife was announced in September 2020 and created one of the largest homegrown financial services companies in Singapore in a deal valued at S$3.2 billion. It was the largest insurance deal in Singapore at the time. Singlife was subsequently acquired by Sumitomo Life in March 2024, one of Japan’s leading life insurers, which valued Singlife at S$4.6 billion, making the transaction one of the largest insurance deals in Southeast Asia.

Purpose

The Lead Engineer performs analysis, rectification, development and technical governance for applications components and will be accountable for the maintenance, quality of code, and compliance to standards within the platform. Accountabilities include but not limited to:

  • Analysis, development, implementation & support of

o Digital and back-office FI related platforms (e.g digital channel, back office / admin).

o Automated unit testing of the deliverable

o Any other form of integration

  • In accordance of agreed digital/platform strategy, standards and governance for a business unit, project, program, platform or feature team
  • Defining technical specifications of solutions in accordance with the agreed digital/platform strategy incorporating non functional requirement such as, security, and system performance and Engineering best practices
  • Driving continuous improvement through technical and process innovation to optimize the way we deliver to our customers, promoting ways to leverage business benefit at every opportunity

Responsibilities

Nature of Work

  • Hands-on engineering: own high risk components, review MR

o Responsible for system low level design including infrastructure

o Ensure non functional requirements are fulfilled: scalability, availability, security, performance, resilience

o Mentor senior & junior engineers

o Provide regular feedback for improvement

o Ensure coding standard & best practices are implemented

o Guide team on design implementation

o High Level Estimation

o Responsible for technical scope in every sprint / releases

o Manage Technical Dependency

o Responsible to ensure technical debt are manage within risk tolerance

o Working with PO & Business users & vendor

o Provide support for L2 in areas such as: Incident Management, Root Cause Analysis

o Manage & Rectify vulnerability / cybersecurity related fixes

o Ensure proper logging / monitoring and alert for every deliverable

Problem Solving

  • Accountable for solving problems and dealing with difficulties in line with policy, process and other guidelines applying technical knowledge and expertise
  • Depending on the nature of the specific role, problems can range from repetitive daily issues to complex technical problems requiring significant expertise
  • Escalate problems according to guidelines
  • Provide technical solutions for deficiencies in process, application configuration and operational procedures

Resource Complexity

  • Accountable for prioritizing own use of time to deliver the workload expected of the role while working within policy and guidelines and applying technical knowledge
  • Understand and proactively involve in programs related to Tech Upgrade, Platform Automation.
  • Ensure that delivery is sufficiently well designed to mitigate the risks posed by the changes
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations relating to the above functional activities.

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of working experience with API services
  • Minimum 5 years of working experience with Java framework
  • Minimum 5 years of working experience with FI
  • Working experience with front end framework such as react
  • Working experience with AWS Cloud with IaC
  • Working experience with containers framework (EKS / ECS)
  • Working experience to lead a team of more than 10 engineers
  • Working experience in vendor relationship management
  • Working experience with low code / no code software such as Salesforce is preferred
  • Working experience with various Generative AI tools

Education

  • Proactive to propose innovative solutions
