About the role:
SMITECH is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support site execution, technical coordination and project delivery for a major M&E construction and infrastructure project in Singapore.
This role will work closely with the M&E Manager, project team, consultants, subcontractors, BIM/QS/QAQC/WSH teams and client representatives to coordinate mechanical building services works, resolve technical issues and ensure timely execution on site.
This project role is to be based on site on a 5.5-day work week.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and supervise mechanical works including ACMV, mechanical ventilation, plumbing & sanitary, fire protection, pumps, pipework, plant equipment and related M&E systems.
- Review construction drawings, shop drawings, material submissions, method statements, ITPs, MSRA and technical documentation.
- Ensure mechanical installations comply with approved drawings, project specifications, statutory requirements, quality standards and safety requirements.
- Coordinate closely with consultants, subcontractors, C&S, architectural, electrical and BIM teams to resolve design clashes, site constraints and interface issues.
- Prepare and follow up on RFIs, technical clarifications, site instructions, inspection requests and progress updates.
- Monitor site progress, manpower deployment, material delivery and subcontractor work performance.
- Conduct site inspections to ensure workmanship, installation quality and construction sequence meet project requirements.
- Support testing and commissioning, authority/client inspections, handover documentation and close-out of outstanding defects.
- Assist the project team in identifying technical risks, construction issues and practical solutions to keep works moving.
- Maintain proper project records, drawings, correspondence, inspection reports and technical submissions.
Requirements
- Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or related discipline.
- Minimum 3 years of relevant mechanical engineering experience, preferably in M&E construction, infrastructure, commercial, industrial or public-sector projects.
- Good working knowledge of mechanical building services such as ACMV, ventilation, plumbing & sanitary, fire protection, pumps and pipework systems.
- Able to read and interpret construction drawings, shop drawings, specifications and technical submissions.
- Familiar with site coordination, installation sequencing, inspection processes, testing and commissioning documentation.
- Experience coordinating with consultants, subcontractors, RE/RTO teams, client representatives and internal project teams.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office. Knowledge of AutoCAD, BIM coordination tools, Navisworks or Bluebeam will be an advantage.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, coordination and documentation skills.
- Able to work independently in a fast-paced project site environment.
- Prior experience in Singapore construction or infrastructure projects will be an advantage.
