Manager/ Senior Manager, Online Safety Regulation

[What the role is]

With the mission of creating a safe and trusted online environment for Singapore, IMDA is looking for a Manager / Senior Manager to join IMDA’s Online Communications Office. This is an opportunity to shape online safety regulation in Singapore and have direct impact in enabling Singapore users to use online services safety. The Online Communications Office:

a) Operationalises and enforces IMDA’s regulations relating to online safety and misinformation across multiple categories of Online Communication Services, including Social Media Services and App Distribution Services.

b) Develops cutting edge approaches to test the effectiveness of Services’ systems and processes, in order to assess compliance with online safety regulations.

c) Engages stakeholders within Government and Industry to ensure effective compliance with online safety regulations.

d) Conducts horizon scanning of the rapidly evolving online safety harms landscape to identify and mitigate emerging online safety risks.

[What you will be working on]

  • Monitor and analyse emerging online safety and misinformation trends, with a focus on technical developments (e.g. child safety measures and age assurance), to distil actionable policy insights and make recommendations on regulatory approaches.
  • Develop and implement innovative and data-driven compliance assessment approaches across a variety of online services (e.g. social media and app stores) and domain areas (e.g. age assurance).
  • Engage directly with industry to operationalise and enhance compliance with online safety regulations.
  • Conduct content assessments on potentially harmful online content and take necessary regulatory action to deal with harmful online content.
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams across IMDA and the Government to ensure the effective information sharing and operationalisation of online safety regulations.
  • Project manage complex workstreams and ensure prompt delivery of outcomes against deadlines.

[What we are looking for]

  • Background in Humanities, Social Sciences, Mass Communications, Computer Science, or Data Science.
  • 5-8 years of experience in an online safety or technology-related policy, product, programme management or operations role in the private or public sectors. Job grade will be based on duration and level of relevant work experience.
  • Strong interest in online safety and good technical knowledge on how child safety and age assurance measures operate on online platforms.
  • Experience leading or contributing to cross-functional teams.
  • Strong analytical, reasoning, writing and project management skills, with the ability to maintain high-level strategic perspective.
  • Proactive, curious and inquisitive mindset to learn new things and problem solve independently.
  • Experience working with statistics and data will be an advantage.
