DESIGNATION : 50069710 - Correspondent (South Asia), CNA TV

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Karachi Correspondent will report on business, technology, economic, and social issues in Pakistan for CNA TV International, with some work also appearing on CNA's digital and radio platforms. In addition to developments in Karachi, the correspondent will contribute to coverage across Pakistan and South Asia as CNA expands its presence in the region.

Scope of the Role

The successful candidate will monitor and research news developments and produce editorial deliverables under the supervision of Singapore-based desk editors, while working closely with colleagues from CNA Digital.

The role includes:

  • Day-to-day editorial production.
  • Story planning and forward coverage.
  • Travel and external engagement.
  • Driving coverage of Pakistan and the wider South Asia region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor news developments in Pakistan and the region; provide prompt, concise, and accurate updates to guide editorial decisions.
  • Oversee planning of Pakistan-related coverage, including stories, series, and major events.
  • Produce a steady flow of original, value-added, and impactful stories that meet CNA's highest editorial standards, across formats such as news, features, analysis, commentaries, and special projects.
  • File deliverables under the guidance of Singapore-based desk editors, including (but not limited to):

Live hits.

News stories.

Feature packages.

Multi-part feature series.

In-depth coverage planning.

  • Build and maintain a strong network of government officials, business leaders, private-sector professionals, and analysts; collaborate with CNA's existing partners in Pakistan.
  • Liaise with Pakistani officials inside and outside Pakistan, representing CNA and Mediacorp professionally at all times.
  • Exercise sound editorial judgment in identifying story ideas that are relevant, engaging, and impactful for CNA's audience, aligned with our mission to help people Understand Asia.
  • Travel within Karachi and elsewhere in Pakistan as required, and work irregular hours when necessary.
  • Contribute ideas to senior editors for planning of major news events.
  • Produce content across multiple platforms, including TV, digital, and radio (an advantage).

Support CNA's adoption of new technologies and social media tools.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Minimum 7 years' experience as a full-time journalist in Pakistan; TV experience preferred, with Karachi coverage an advantage.
    • Strong and well-established network of contacts across Pakistan.
    • A keen news sense with strong interest in current affairs in Pakistan and across Asia.
    • Outstanding writing skills, strong newsgathering abilities, and a tenacious reporting instinct.
    • Solid understanding of geopolitical sensitivities and awareness of editorial red lines.
    • Native-level proficiency in English; fluency in Urdu is essential.
    • Able to work independently while also being a collaborative and reliable team player.
    • Prior experience with visuals, AI tools, and social media platforms is an advantage.
    • Willingness to work irregular shifts, including weekends and public holidays.
