Intern

American Bureau of Shipping (ABS)

The intern will perform work assignments that are developmental in nature, under the direct supervision of an experienced engineer. Work assignments are designated to familiarize the incumbent with the Company’s business, policies, methods and procedures.

What You Will Do

  • Performs and assists with engineering review, safety studies and project management tasks, as assigned, for compliance with applicable project contractual commitments.
  • Assists in technical analysis with respect to safety, health and the environment for offshore/onshore.
  • Assists in the development of proposals and bids, as well as business development support.
  • Prepares written, technically accurate and timely responses to faxes and letters from clients or other technical groups.
  • Drafts technically accurate reports detailing the results of various studies performed for review by a senior Engineer.
  • Engage in scribing for Risk & Safety Workshops (local / overseas)
  • Assists in preparing accurate and timely reports and requests for invoices on all work performed.
  • Participates in related training seminars.
  • Undergoes ABS Quality System training and applies the TQM principle in the work environment.
  • Communicates the status of the current workload to all appropriate members of the organization’s team to ensure the needs of the clients will be met.

What You Will Need

Education and Experience

  • Applicants must be working towards Chemical or related degree at an accredited school

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must be available to work a full internship term (3 months to 6 months of duration).
  • Basic engineering knowledge and proficiency in Excel and AutoCAD are preferred.
  • Obtain a working knowledge of the ABS Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental Management System.
