We’ve opened a brand-new deli concept in the heart of the CBD—and we’re looking for a Sous Chef to be part of our BB family.

This is a lunch-focused deli, built around delicious, thoughtful sandwiches and comforting dishes, done properly. Serving generously filled sandwiches, fresh sides and quality drinks in a fun, energetic environment. With a strong focus on speed, consistency and great food, we are looking for a capable and hands-on Sous Chef to help lead our kitchen team and support the continued growth of the concept.

This concept comes from the team behind Marcy’s—a group known for taking familiar ideas and giving them soul. Our new deli will follow the same philosophy: approachable food, done exceptionally well, in a space designed for the everyday rhythms of the city.

What You’ll Be Doing

As Sous Chef, your primary responsibility will be to:

- Support the Head Chef in managing the day-to-day kitchen operations at Between Buns. You will help lead the kitchen team through preparation and service, ensuring that every item is produced efficiently, consistently and according to our recipes and presentation standards.

- You will take ownership of kitchen readiness, including daily preparation, station organisation, ordering, inventory control and the monitoring of stock levels and wastage.

- You will work closely with the Head Chef to maintain food costs, improve kitchen systems and ensure the team is prepared for busy service periods, catering orders and events.

- A key part of your role will involve training and supervising junior chefs, maintaining a positive and accountable working environment, and ensuring that all food safety, hygiene and cleanliness standards are followed.

- You will also assist with menu development, recipe testing and R&D as the concept continues to evolve.

We are looking for someone who is organised, dependable and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. You should be confident leading a small team, communicating clearly and remaining hands-on throughout preparation and service. Other responsibilities may be assigned depending on operational requirements and the continued development of Between Buns.

Who We’re Looking For

Previous experience as a Sous Chef or experienced Chef de Partie ready for the next step

Strong understanding of kitchen operations, preparation and service organisation

Experience with ordering, inventory management, portion control and wastage

Good knowledge of food safety and kitchen hygiene standards

A hands-on and team-focused leadership style

Ability to work efficiently during high-volume service periods

Interest in sandwiches, deli-style food and developing a growing concept
