About the role
SMITECH is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to support the planning, coordination and execution of mechanical building services works for a major M&E construction project in Singapore.
This role will work closely with the Project Manager, M&E Manager, consultants, subcontractors, site teams and client representatives to ensure mechanical works are delivered safely, on schedule, and in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, project quality standards and statutory requirements.
This project role is to be based on site on a 5.5-day workweek.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate and supervise mechanical services installation works, including ACMV, plumbing and sanitary, fire protection and related M&E systems.
- Review construction drawings, shop drawings, technical specifications, method statements, material submissions and installation details.
- Coordinate closely with consultants, clients, subcontractors, RE/RTO teams and internal project teams to resolve technical and site coordination issues.
- Monitor work progress, manpower deployment, material readiness and subcontractor performance to support project milestones.
- Ensure mechanical works are carried out in accordance with approved drawings, project specifications, quality requirements and safety standards.
- Assist in preparing RFIs, technical clarifications, progress updates, inspection requests and project documentation.
- Support testing and commissioning activities, inspection close-out, handover documentation and authority/client submissions where required.
- Identify site constraints, technical risks and coordination clashes early, and propose practical engineering solutions.
- Guide junior engineers, supervisors and subcontractors on technical requirements, installation sequence and site execution standards.
- Work with QAQC and WSH teams to ensure inspection readiness, workmanship quality and safe work execution.
Requirements
- Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or related discipline.
- Minimum five (5) years of relevant mechanical engineering experience in M&E construction, infrastructure, building services or large-scale project environments.
- Good working knowledge of mechanical systems such as ACMV, plumbing and sanitary, fire protection and related M&E services.
- Able to read and interpret construction drawings, shop drawings, specifications, method statements and technical submissions.
- Experience in site coordination, subcontractor management, technical documentation, inspections and testing & commissioning support.
- Familiar with Singapore construction site practices and coordination requirements.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, coordination and documentation skills.
- Able to work independently while coordinating closely with project, site, consultant and subcontractor teams.
- Experience in infrastructure, transport, utilities, commercial, industrial or public-sector projects will be an advantage.
