Job Title: Animation Director

Company: Heritage Bay Pte Ltd

Location: Singapore

Employment Type: Full‑time

About Heritage Bay

Heritage Bay is a Singapore‑based batik and artisan design studio focused on storytelling, craft, and community. We work with local designers, schools, and social organisations to create meaningful products, exhibitions and media projects that highlight Southeast Asian heritage and local stories. Our upcoming initiative “Threads Connecting Us” uses animation, film and design to spotlight different stakeholders and beneficiaries across Singapore.

We are looking for an Animation Director to lead the creative direction, production and delivery of our animated content and related media.

Key Responsibilities

Creative Direction & Storytelling

  • Develop the overarching animation vision and style for Heritage Bay projects, including “Threads Connecting Us” and future series.

  • Translate project briefs into compelling storylines, scripts, mood boards and visual concepts.

  • Ensure all animation work reflects Heritage Bay’s brand, values and focus on culture, inclusion and community.

Production Leadership

  • Plan and oversee the full animation pipeline (pre‑production, production, post‑production) for short films, episodic content, social media videos and campaign assets.

  • Lead, guide and review the work of animators, motion designers, illustrators, editors and other creative collaborators.

  • Coordinate with internal teams and external partners (schools, NGOs, studios, freelancers, micro‑influencers) to deliver projects on time and within budget.

Technical & Quality Control

  • Define technical standards for animation projects, including file formats, frame rates, resolution and workflow.

  • Review animatics, storyboards, layouts, character and background designs, and final sequences to ensure consistency and quality.

  • Troubleshoot creative and technical issues, giving clear feedback and direction to improve output.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Work closely with the Creative Director / Founder on concept development, brand messaging and narrative tone.

  • Collaborate with project managers, educators, mentors and community partners to make sure content is accurate, respectful and inclusive.

  • Present concepts, progress and final work to internal and external stakeholders; incorporate feedback while maintaining strong creative standards.

Documentation & Process Improvement

  • Document processes, workflows and best practices so that projects can be replicated and scaled.

  • Mentor junior creatives and interns, giving them guidance on craft, storytelling and production discipline.

  • Recommend tools, equipment and systems (e.g. cameras, microphones, lights, software) that support high‑quality documentation and animation.

Requirements

Experience & Background

  • Degree in Animation, Motion Design, Film, Media, Visual Communication or related field, or equivalent professional experience.

  • Strong portfolio showing narrative‑driven animation work (2D, 3D, motion graphics or mixed media) and experience leading projects from concept to final delivery.

  • Prior experience in a studio, production house, agency or similar environment as Animation Director, Lead Animator, or Senior Motion Designer is preferred.

Skills

  • Proficiency in industry‑standard tools such as Adobe After Effects, Premiere Pro, Photoshop/Illustrator, and/or Toon Boom, Blender, or similar software.

  • Strong storytelling ability: framing, pacing, character development and visual rhythm.

  • Solid understanding of the full animation pipeline, including storyboarding, layout, design, animation, compositing and sound integration.

  • Excellent communication and leadership skills; able to give constructive feedback and guide creative teams and collaborators.

  • Good project management skills: planning timelines, managing multiple deliverables, and meeting deadlines.

Attributes

  • Passion for heritage, culture, education and social impact projects.

  • Comfortable working with diverse stakeholders (students, beneficiaries, educators, creatives).

  • Detail‑oriented but able to balance quality with practical constraints.

  • Collaborative, open to feedback, and willing to adapt as the project evolves.
