Job Summary

The Interior Design Tutor will deliver engaging lessons in interior design theory, design development, technical drafting, CAD software, 3D visualisation, and portfolio preparation. The successful candidate will mentor students through practical projects while helping them build the skills required for university success and future careers in the interior design industry.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching & Curriculum Delivery

  • Deliver lessons in Interior Design for diploma and bachelor's degree students.
  • Teach both theoretical concepts and practical design applications.
  • Develop lesson plans, teaching materials, assignments, and project briefs.
  • Adapt teaching methods to accommodate students with different learning abilities and educational backgrounds.

Interior Design Fundamentals

Teach students the principles and foundations of interior design, including:

  • Elements and principles of design
  • Colour theory
  • Spatial planning
  • Human-centred and universal design
  • Design psychology
  • Residential, commercial, hospitality, retail, and workplace design concepts

Technical Drawing & Documentation

Guide students in producing professional technical drawings, including:

  • Floor plans
  • Elevations
  • Sections
  • Reflected ceiling plans
  • Furniture layouts
  • Joinery details
  • Construction details
  • Dimensioning and scale drawings

Computer-Aided Design (CAD) & Digital Design

Teach students to use industry-standard software, including:

  • AutoCAD
  • SketchUp
  • Revit (preferred)
  • Rhino (preferred)
  • Adobe Photoshop
  • Adobe Illustrator
  • Adobe InDesign

Knowledge of the following is an advantage:

3D Modelling & Visualisation

Train students to:

  • Develop 3D models
  • Produce realistic renderings
  • Create lighting studies
  • Apply materials and textures
  • Prepare walkthrough presentations
  • Produce professional presentation boards

Materials & Construction

Teach students about:

  • Interior materials and finishes
  • Timber, stone, marble, glass, metal, laminates, vinyl, tiles, fabrics, and acoustic materials
  • Sustainable materials and environmentally responsible design
  • Interior construction methods
  • Joinery and carpentry detailing
  • Ceiling and flooring systems
  • Basic mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) coordination

Design Development

Guide students through the complete design process:

  • Client briefing
  • Site analysis
  • Research
  • Concept development
  • Mood boards
  • Space planning
  • Design refinement
  • Material specification
  • Final presentation

Portfolio Development

Assist students in preparing:

  • University admission portfolios
  • Internship portfolios
  • Professional design portfolios
  • Presentation boards
  • Digital portfolios

Student Mentoring

  • Provide academic guidance and constructive design critiques.
  • Support students in strengthening creativity, technical skills, and presentation confidence.
  • Monitor learning progress and provide regular feedback.
  • Encourage independent thinking and professional problem-solving.

Assessment

  • Evaluate assignments, design projects, and presentations.
  • Prepare progress reports where required.
  • Recommend improvement strategies for each student.
Required Qualifications

Applicants should possess:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, Architecture, Environmental Design, or a closely related discipline.
  • Master's Degree is an advantage.
Required Experience
  • Minimum 3 years of professional experience in interior design, interior architecture, or related design practice.
  • Experience teaching, tutoring, mentoring, or supervising tertiary-level students is highly preferred.
  • Experience working on residential, commercial, hospitality, retail, or workplace projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to guide students through complete design projects from concept to final presentation.

  • Experience with Building Information Modelling (BIM).
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted design tools and digital presentation platforms.
  • Experience conducting online or hybrid learning sessions.
Language Requirements
  • Excellent command of spoken and written English.
  • Ability to communicate in Mandarin is an advantage to support bilingual students and parents.
