Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Lead Automation Engineer to lead the design, implementation, and sustainment of industrial automation and robotics solutions across the manufacturing facility. You will drive automation projects from concept through commissioning while collaborating with cross-functional teams to enhance process efficiency, reliability, and scalability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop automation architecture, engineering standards, and best practices for PLCs, robotics, motion control, safety systems, and industrial networks.
  • Design, program, and commission industrial and collaborative robots (ABB, Fanuc, UR, or KUKA), including integration with vision systems, HMIs, drives, and motion control.
  • Translate manufacturing requirements into automation strategies, functional specifications, and system acceptance criteria.
  • Lead automation projects from concept, design, and implementation through commissioning and handover.
  • Manage project schedules, budgets, vendors, contractors, and system integrators, including FAT and SAT activities.
  • Utilize offline programming and simulation tools (e.g., ABB RobotStudio, FANUC ROBOGUIDE) for robotic cell design and optimization.
  • Design and program Beckhoff TwinCAT 3 PLC systems, including EtherCAT, motion control, and TwinSAFE applications.
  • Perform system validation and qualification (IQ/OQ/PQ) while maintaining complete engineering documentation.
  • Implement process control plans, PFMEA, and automation risk assessments.
  • Monitor automation performance using KPIs such as OEE, FPY, and downtime, driving root cause analysis and continuous improvement.
  • Develop preventive maintenance strategies, software version control, and operator training programs.
  • Collaborate with EHS, Quality, Maintenance, and IT teams to ensure safe and compliant automation systems.
  • Mentor engineers and technicians on automation, robotics, and best engineering practices.
  • Support Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechatronics, Automation, Electrical, Mechanical, Controls Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience delivering industrial automation and robotics projects from concept through commissioning.
  • Hands-on experience programming industrial robots such as ABB, Fanuc, Universal Robots (UR), or KUKA.
  • Strong knowledge of PLC programming and industrial control systems, preferably Beckhoff TwinCAT 3, EtherCAT, motion control, and TwinSAFE.
  • Experience managing automation projects, vendors, and FAT/SAT activities.
  • Knowledge of automation validation and qualification (IQ/OQ/PQ).
  • Experience integrating robotics, vision systems, motion control, and industrial safety systems.
  • Familiarity with Python, C++, or Java for automation interfaces or simulation is an advantage.
  • Experience using CAD software such as SolidWorks or Siemens NX is preferred.
