Service Engineer (Marine)

Job Summary

We are seeking a motivated Service Engineer with 1–3 years of experience to install, maintain, test, and repair marine navigation, communication, and safety equipment onboard vessels and in our workshop. The role includes occasional travel for onboard servicing, surveys, and sea trials.

Responsibilities

  • Install, service, troubleshoot, and repair marine navigation and communication equipment such as radar, GPS, AIS, VDR/APT, GMDSS, and CCTV systems to ensure operational reliability
  • Conduct Radio Surveys, VDR APT, and other statutory equipment surveys in compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Perform onboard servicing and attend sea trials to verify equipment functionality and compliance
  • Diagnose equipment faults and implement effective solutions to minimize vessel downtime
  • Prepare detailed service reports, test certificates, and technical documentation for client and regulatory use
  • Liaise with clients, classification societies, and equipment manufacturers to coordinate service and compliance activities
  • Maintain accurate records of service jobs, spare parts usage, and equipment history for operational transparency
  • Ensure all work complies with safety standards and company procedures to maintain a safe working environment
  • Provide technical support and guidance to junior engineers and technicians to enhance team capability

Required competencies and certifications

  • Diploma or Degree in Marine Engineering, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
  • 1–3 years of experience servicing marine electronics, navigation, or communication systems, including radar, GMDSS, VDR, or AIS
  • Ability to conduct radio survey and VDR/APT equipment inspections in line with statutory requirements
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills to resolve technical issues efficiently
  • Effective communication skills and a customer-focused approach to service delivery
  • Capability to work independently and collaboratively within a team

Preferred competencies and qualifications

  • Valid driving license (preferred, not essential for core duties)
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for onboard servicing, sea trials, and site visits
