Appointment Purpose
The Tuition Teacher supports the academic development of primary school students by conducting English and Mathematics tuition sessions for small groups of approximately 5 to 7 students. The role focuses on reinforcing school curriculum concepts, improving academic performance, and building students' confidence in both subjects.
Roles and Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning Support
- Conduct English and Mathematics lessons aligned with the Singapore Primary School curriculum.
- Guide students in the completion of school homework, revision exercises, and assessment papers.
- Explain concepts clearly using age-appropriate teaching methods and examples.
- Conduct spelling, vocabulary, comprehension, grammar, and Mathematics practice activities.
- Monitor students' academic progress and provide learning support according to their abilities.
- Encourage positive learning habits, critical thinking, and independent learning skills.
Student Development and Welfare
- Foster a positive, engaging, and encouraging learning environment.
- Motivate students to participate actively during lessons.
- Observe students' learning progress and communicate concerns to centre management when necessary.
- Support students' confidence, discipline, and sense of responsibility.
Professional Practice
- Prepare lesson materials, worksheets, and learning resources when required.
- Maintain attendance and basic student progress records.
- Adhere to centre policies, operational procedures, and professional conduct standards.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and centre management to support programme quality.
Minimum Qualifications and Requirements
- Nitec, Higher Nitec, Diploma, A-Level, or equivalent qualification.
- Good proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Strong foundation in primary-level English and Mathematics.
- Ability to explain concepts clearly and engage young learners.
- Willingness to comply with centre policies related to child safety, supervision, and conduct.
Preferred Attributes
- Experience in tuition centres, student care centres, enrichment centres, or classroom support is an advantage.
- Suitable for fresh graduates, university students, part-time applicants, or mid-career entrants.
- Demonstrates patience, reliability, and a passion for teaching and mentoring children.
- Able to manage small groups of students effectively and maintain a positive learning environment.
Working Arrangements
- Working days: 2 weekdays per week (Tuesday and Wednesday)
- Working hours: 4.00 pm – 6.00 pm
- No weekend or public holiday duties
- Commitment: Minimum 6 months to 1 year
Remuneration
- Hourly rate: $15 to $20 per hour
- Remuneration commensurate with qualifications, relevant experience, and performance.
