Purchasing Officer (Marine Supply / FMCG)

Key Responsibilities

  • Source and purchase FMCG/CPG products at competitive prices while maintaining quality standards.
  • Negotiate pricing, delivery schedules, and commercial terms with suppliers and distributors.
  • Monitor inventory levels and ensure adequate stock availability while minimising excess inventory.
  • Forecast purchasing requirements based on sales trends and vessel demand.
  • Manage the complete procurement cycle from purchase order issuance through to final delivery onboard vessels.
  • Coordinate with warehouse personnel, logistics providers, transport teams, and ship agents to ensure timely deliveries.
  • Monitor vessel schedules and adjust procurement and logistics plans to meet operational timelines.
  • Build and maintain strong supplier relationships to ensure reliable supply and cost efficiency.
  • Resolve supply shortages, delivery issues, and urgent procurement requirements promptly.
  • Maintain accurate purchasing records, inventory reports, and supplier documentation.
  • Identify opportunities to improve purchasing processes and reduce procurement costs.

Requirements

  • Diploma or Degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Logistics, Procurement, or a related discipline is preferred.
  • At least 2 years of experience in purchasing, procurement, inventory control, or supply chain operations.
  • Experience in FMCG, CPG, wholesale distribution, food distribution, retail procurement, or similar industries will be advantageous.
  • Experience in the marine, shipping, or ship chandling industry is an advantage but not mandatory.
  • Good negotiation and supplier management skills.
  • Strong inventory planning and stock management capabilities.
  • Highly organised with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritise multiple tasks and work effectively under tight deadlines.
  • Good communication skills with the ability to coordinate effectively with suppliers, logistics providers, warehouse personnel, and ship agents.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and ERP or inventory management systems.
  • A proactive problem solver who performs well in a fast-paced operational environment.
