Legal Counsel (Shipping)

The client is a global shipping company with a robust legal and compliance team. This is an exciting opportunity for a lawyer either from law firm/in-house to grow a fulfilling shipping career.

Responsibilities

As part of a global legal and compliance team, you will provide commercially focused legal support across the organization's international operations. You will advise on a broad range of legal matters spanning maritime, commercial, corporate and regulatory issues, while partnering closely with business stakeholders to manage legal risk and support strategic initiatives.

Key responsibilities include advising on shipping and maritime matters, drafting and negotiating commercial agreements, supporting corporate transactions including M&A, joint ventures and financing matters, and providing guidance on corporate governance and structuring. You will also work closely with the compliance function to strengthen compliance frameworks, monitor legal and regulatory developments, and manage disputes and insurance-related matters where required.

Requirements

You should possess a Law degree from a recognized university and at least five years of post-qualification experience gained in private practice, an in-house legal team, or a combination of both. Experience in maritime, shipping, commercial or corporate law would be advantageous.

The ideal candidate is commercially minded, with strong analytical, drafting and negotiation skills, excellent stakeholder management and communication abilities, and the confidence to work independently in a fast-paced international environment. You should be a proactive team player with sound judgement, a solutions-oriented mindset and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
