Software Engineer / DevOps Engineer (Platform & Infrastructure – Incident Response Management)

About the Role

We are partnering with a leading public sector technology organisation to hire a Software Engineer / DevOps Engineer to support the development of a next-generation Incident Response Management (IRM) platform.

This role is ideal for engineers who are passionate about cloud-native technologies, Kubernetes, DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), and platform engineering. Working alongside a highly experienced engineering team, you will help build and operate a secure, scalable, and highly resilient platform that supports mission-critical digital services.

You'll gain hands-on experience designing portable cloud infrastructure, building automation using Go, implementing CI/CD pipelines, and enhancing observability across modern Kubernetes environments.

Key Responsibilities

Cloud Platform & Infrastructure Engineering

  • Deploy, configure, and maintain cloud-native platform services on enterprise Kubernetes environments using Helm.
  • Design and implement infrastructure with a strong focus on portability, enabling seamless deployment across multiple Kubernetes clusters.
  • Develop, optimise, and maintain secure CI/CD pipelines to support automated and reliable software delivery.
  • Improve platform scalability, resilience, and operational reliability through infrastructure automation and engineering best practices.

Backend Engineering & Automation

  • Develop backend services, automation tools, and platform components using Golang.
  • Build reusable tooling to support infrastructure management and operational efficiency.
  • Maintain high-quality, well-tested, and maintainable code following engineering best practices.
  • Contribute to platform automation initiatives that improve deployment, monitoring, and system operations.

Frontend & Platform Observability

  • Develop and enhance user-facing dashboard components using TypeScript.
  • Work closely with Product Managers and UX teams to deliver intuitive operational dashboards.
  • Enhance monitoring, logging, alerting, and observability capabilities to improve platform visibility and incident response.
  • Participate in day-to-day platform operations, including production support and on-call responsibilities where required.

Agile Delivery & Engineering Governance

  • Participate actively in Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, backlog grooming, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Contribute to architecture discussions, technical documentation, and engineering design reviews.
  • Follow engineering governance processes, including:Code ReviewsArchitecture Decision Records (ADRs)Requests for Comments (RFCs)
  • Collaborate closely with software engineers, DevOps engineers, platform engineers, and product teams to deliver high-quality solutions.
Requirements

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Strong understanding of:Linux systemsNetworking fundamentalsCloud-native architecturesDistributed systems
  • Hands-on experience or strong knowledge of:KubernetesDocker/ContainersHelm
  • Strong programming experience in Golang.
  • Experience developing frontend applications using TypeScript.
  • Experience building or supporting CI/CD pipelines.
  • Strong understanding of software engineering best practices, including testing, documentation, and code quality.
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and collaboration abilities.
