About the Opportunity
An established multinational telecommunications and technology organisation is seeking a Legal Counsel to support its expanding ASEAN operations. This role provides legal and compliance support across regional business activities, including commercial contracting, regulatory compliance, cross-border projects, and corporate governance.
The successful candidate will work closely with regional stakeholders and overseas legal teams to support business growth while ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Commercial Contracts
- Review, draft and negotiate a broad range of commercial agreements.
- Identify and mitigate legal and commercial risks within contractual arrangements.
- Develop, maintain and improve standard contract templates and legal processes to enhance efficiency.
Regional Project Support
- Provide legal advice for regional business initiatives across ASEAN.
- Support technology-related projects, including cloud, digital infrastructure, intelligent computing, connected mobility and other emerging technology initiatives.
- Collaborate with regional legal teams and business stakeholders on cross-border matters.
Compliance & Corporate Governance
- Manage ongoing corporate compliance obligations, statutory filings and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate compliance programmes, risk assessments and internal legal awareness initiatives.
- Support the implementation and continuous improvement of compliance policies and governance frameworks.
Regulatory Advisory
- Monitor legislative and regulatory developments relevant to the business.
- Advise internal stakeholders on matters including telecommunications regulations, data protection, cybersecurity, export controls, sanctions, anti-bribery and corruption, anti-money laundering, and intellectual property.
Dispute Management
- Assist in managing litigation, arbitration and other dispute resolution matters.
- Coordinate with external legal counsel where required.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Law (LLB or equivalent) from a recognised university.
- Admission to practise law in Singapore or another recognised common law or civil law jurisdiction will be considered.
- Relevant post-qualification legal experience, preferably supporting commercial, regulatory or compliance matters.
- Experience within the telecommunications, technology, ICT, digital infrastructure or related industries will be advantageous.
- Strong knowledge of commercial contracts, regulatory compliance and corporate legal matters.
- Excellent analytical, drafting and problem-solving skills.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across multicultural teams.
Language Requirements
Proficiency in both English and Chinese (written and spoken) is required for this role as it involves frequent communication with overseas stakeholders, reviewing and negotiating bilingual legal documents, and supporting cross-border projects conducted in both languages.
