Automotive & EV Technician (Heavy-Duty Vehicles)

Our client is seeking an experienced and hands-on Automotive & EV Technician to carry out diagnostics, repair, servicing, and preventive maintenance for both internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric heavy-duty vehicles.

The successful candidate should possess strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting capabilities, including knowledge of DC electrical systems and EV components. You will be responsible for ensuring that all vehicles are maintained and repaired in accordance with OEM specifications, operational requirements, and workplace safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, diagnostics, servicing, and repairs on ICE and electric heavy-duty vehicles.
  • Diagnose and rectify faults in mechanical, electrical, electronic, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair engines, transmissions, drivelines, suspension, steering, braking, and HVAC systems.
  • Diagnose and repair EV components, including electric motors, battery systems, power electronics, charging systems, and related components.
  • Perform fault diagnosis on DC electrical systems, including batteries, DC-DC converters, wiring harnesses, relays, contactors, and control circuits.
  • Conduct electrical testing using multimeters, insulation resistance testers, diagnostic scan tools, and manufacturer-specific diagnostic software.
  • Read and interpret wiring diagrams, electrical schematics, technical manuals, and service documentation.
  • Carry out component replacement, adjustment, calibration, and functional testing to ensure vehicle reliability and operational readiness.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate service reports, inspection records, fault findings, and repair documentation.
  • Ensure all maintenance and repair work complies with OEM specifications, company procedures, and workplace safety requirements.
  • Observe all PPE, electrical safety, and high-voltage safety procedures.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and maintain a clean, organised, and safe workshop environment.
  • Provide on-site technical support when required.

Requirements

  • Diploma, NITEC, Higher NITEC, or equivalent qualification in Automotive Technology, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related discipline.
  • At least 2 to 5 years of relevant experience in automotive, commercial vehicle, or heavy-duty vehicle maintenance and repair.
  • Hands-on experience servicing both ICE and electric vehicles will be an advantage.
  • Strong knowledge of diesel or gasoline engines, driveline systems, and heavy-duty vehicle maintenance.
  • Good understanding of DC electrical systems, battery technology, DC-DC converters, wiring diagnostics, and electrical fault-finding.
  • Experience using automotive diagnostic scan tools and electrical testing equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and electrical schematics.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Able to work independently and effectively as part of a team.
  • Possess a valid driving licence.
  • A heavy vehicle driving licence will be an advantage.
  • Willing to work overtime, shifts, or provide on-site support when operationally required.
  • Able to handle tools, equipment, and heavy vehicle components.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High-voltage EV safety training or certification.
  • Experience working with commercial, industrial, or heavy-duty vehicles.
  • Knowledge of battery management systems, electric drivetrains, power electronics, and charging systems.
  • Relevant OEM training or technical certifications.

Working Conditions

  • Primarily workshop-based (Tuas), with occasional on-site support.
  • Role may involve lifting heavy components and working in physically demanding environments.
  • Required to comply with all PPE, workshop safety, electrical safety, and high-voltage safety procedures.
