Global Trade Compliance Specialist

As a leading global organization committed to high standards of integrity and compliance. The client is seeking an experienced, independent Trade Compliance professional to oversee and support its operations across the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region.
Regional Compliance Strategy
- Act as the primary regional expert on trade compliance covering APAC
- Provide guidance on complex national and regional export controls, economic sanctions, and customs laws.
- Support HQ to address and manage the impact of international rules (like US EAR/ITAR and EU laws) affecting regional business operations.
Daily Trade & Customs Operations
- Customs Management: Handle local customs regulations, classifications (HS codes), valuation, country of origin, and Free Trade Agreements (FTAs).
- Export Controls: Oversee licenses, restricted party screening, technology transfers, and risk mitigation to prevent shipping delays.
Government Relations & Audits
- Serve as the main contact for local customs and trade regulatory authorities within the APAC region.
- Maintain cooperative relationships with local authorities to facilitate smooth audit, disclosure, and enforcement processes.
- Manage regional trade audits, disclosures, and corrective action plans in close alignment with HQ.
Qualifications
- Minimum 10 years of trade compliance and customs experience within a multinational corporation with regional responsibility. Candidates from chemical industry would be preferred.
- Proven hands-on experience managing trade compliance across APAC markets with commercial and manufacturing sites
- Deep knowledge of regional customs regulations, national export control systems (e.g., SG Strategic Goods Control, KR Foreign Trade Act), global sanctions regimes, and their extraterritorial reach.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. Ability to work as an individual contributor while collaborating with a remote global HQ team.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate complex legal texts and enforcement practices into actionable business procedures.
