We're looking for a Trading Engineer to join our growing Commodities Trading team in Singapore. This is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of trading, data, and engineering, building the tools and infrastructure that enable our traders to make better decisions and improve performance across global commodity markets.
Who We Are
Optiver is a global electronic market maker. We use our own capital, at our own risk, to trade on major financial markets around the world, 24 hours a day. We provide liquidity across a broad range of products including listed derivatives, equities, ETFs, bonds, foreign exchange, and commodities.
Our Singapore office is the hub for Optiver's FICC business, with growing Commodities and FX trading desks, and plays a key role in our long-term APAC growth strategy.
What You'll Do
As a Trading Engineer, you'll partner closely with traders, quantitative researchers, and data engineers to develop tools, systems, and infrastructure that improve trading performance and decision-making.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Build and maintain tools that support traders across the full trading lifecycle, from market analysis to execution and post-trade analytics.
- Design and develop scalable data pipelines and infrastructure to process large volumes of market and trading data.
- Work closely with traders to automate manual workflows and improve operational efficiency.
- Develop dashboards, analytics, and monitoring tools to provide actionable insights into trading performance and market behaviour.
- Collaborate with Quantitative Researchers and Data Engineers to deploy and productionise research and trading models.
- Improve the reliability, performance, and scalability of trading systems and infrastructure.
- Troubleshoot production issues and identify opportunities to optimise existing tools and processes.
- Drive continuous improvement by leveraging new technologies, automation, and engineering best practices.
Who You Are
To succeed in this role, you'll ideally have:
- A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, or a related quantitative discipline.
- Strong software engineering skills with experience in languages such as Python, C++, Java, or similar.
- Experience working with data engineering, distributed systems, APIs, databases, or cloud technologies.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work with large datasets.
- An interest in financial markets, trading, or quantitative research (prior industry experience is advantageous but not essential).
- A collaborative mindset and the ability to work closely with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- A proactive approach to identifying problems and building scalable solutions.
- Curiosity, ownership, and a continuous improvement mindset.
Experience in commodities, market data, or trading infrastructure is advantageous but not required.
